The Week in Health and Fitness: Sunday Yoga in the Park, Poké Bowls, Last Chance to be an Obentos Ambassador

This new weekly column looks at the latest fitness and health goings on in Beijing, so you can live your #bestlife.

If you’re a fan of al fresco yoga you’ll be pleased to hear that the Moka Bro’s Sunday morning Yoga in the Park sessions are back in action until the end of September. The sessions are held at Chaoyang Park North Gate from 9.30-11.30am under the tutelage of experienced yoga teacher Theresa. Classes are RMB 30 per person, which gets you 15 percent off at Moka Bro’s Solana afterwards. Remember to bring your own yoga mat.

Speaking of yoga, those who prefer a more traditional yoga studio experience might want to give new gym Philosophy a try. Located in snazzy Parkview Green, Philosophy’s philosophy is to combine “traditional training equipment with innovative functional training,” which basically seems to mean varied fitness classes and top-of-the line imported equipment. They have more than 50 classes a week, including four different types of yoga (including Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa flow), alongside more energetic workouts like high intensity interval training. We’ve heard good things so far and will be stopping by to try it for ourselves in the near future.

If, like many of us at the Beijinger office, you can barely go a couple of days without craving an Obentos, then you might want to apply for their brand new ambassador program. For a period of six months, Obentos Ambassadors will get a 50 percent discount on food and drink (excluding alcohol) and a free dinner with drinks for four persons once a month. In return, all you’re expected to do is engage with the brand, give feedback and ideas, and just generally, like, really, really love Obentos.

To apply, send a short text about yourself and why you think you should be an ambassador to info@obentos.com. Get your applications in before 10pm tonight, August 26.

Also look for Obentos to launch an ever-so-trendy poké bowl on September 1, a boon for those missing the poké bowl at the recently departed Soul Bowls. Featuring fresh sashimi tuna marinated in a soy dressing and served over brown rice, Obentos have put their signature “healthy Japanese” twist on this Hawaiian classic. Try it out before September 1 by telling their staff you want to order the poké bowl, and get 15 percent off the menu price.
