Art Weekly: Beijing Time, New Tales of Ink, 1 = ∞, Banana Banana

Below are some of our top picks for art exhibitions currently showing in Beijing. Enjoy, and there are plenty more choices to be found in our Art Events section, here.

Until September 15: Beijing Time
Dutch artist Carine Weve is holding a solo, live performance piece titled Beijing Time at C-Space until September 15. In her piece she shares with visitors the creative process of realizing a large wall drawing “Square Time,” a process characterized by monotonic execution, repetition, and concentration. Simultaneously with the performance of “Square Time,” her drawing project “1+100” will also be shown, in which Weve investigates how a structure can escape from itself. C-Space. Free.

Until September 18: New Tales of Ink
Ink wash painting (水墨画, shuǐ mò huà), is a traditional form of Chinese painting that has a history of over a 1,000 years. This group show was created by the seven artists Liang Ying, Zeng Jianyong, Zhang Tianmu, Li Jun, Zhu Zhengming, Li Guanguan, and Wang Mengsha, current leading figures in this field. In modern life, ink wash painting has developed alongside changes in social life and aesthetic culture and continue to grow with infinite surprises and exploration. Triumph Art Space. Free.

Until October 9: 1 = ∞
Ge Ziyu’s artworks remind us of something related to spatial dimensions. Ge sees his works as a “same yet different,” a recognition of the Taoist universe, that creates endless changes by replicating noumenon, objects that exist with sense-perception. Ge uses painting and materials to build a space for “creations out of the blue,” committed to emphasizing the relationship between art and the audience. Egg Gallery. Free.

Until October 30: Banana Banana
Do you like bananas as much as Minions do? With the banana song humming away in your head, you may want to stop by and check this exhibition dedicated to our favorite yellow and curved fruit. This group show includes 14 artists from China and abroad with a dedicated theme of bananas. The entire concept shop is filled with all kinds of bananas, even in the fitting room and protruding from the walls. JNBY, Grand Summit. Free.
