Attention Liars: Maovember Needs You This Saturday

The monthlong Beijing-based charity drive known as Maovember has already gotten off to a start with a kickoff party on October 14 and an appearance at the Pizza Fest Oct 15 and 16 – and along the way has already collected over RMB 17,000 to contribute to its chosen charities The Library Project and GoodWorks Coffee and Tea.

This weekend the events get fired up again with the first-ever Maovember Liar’s Dice Tournament at Beer Mania.

Twenty-four bullsh*tters pony up RMB 100 each for a chance to lay claim to prizes and the title of the city’s biggest fibber, with 100 percent of the cash going to Maovember charities. Each contestant will be well lubricated with 1.5 liters of Grisette beer. Spaces are filling up fast, and if you’d like to reserve a slot you gotta do it in advance by using the QR code in the poster below:

So what is Liar’s Dice anyhow? It’s super simple, straightforward and takes only a minute to learn ... but of course, a lifetime to master.

If you can’t make it Saturday, never fear: there’s plenty more going on over the next three weeks for you to get involved in.
Maovember raises money in two ways: one via events and the other by pin sales. Contribute 50 kuai and you get a pin to proudly display on your lapel, discounts at some Maovember venues, and of course your portrait immortalized on the Maovember.com website.

Pins are being sold this year at Beer Mania, Café de la Poste, Cheers, Irish Volunteer/Hockey Bar, Home Plate BBQ, Paddy O'Shea's, Punjabi and the Single Malt Club – and this just in – via Sherpa’s couriers, so even you homebodies have no excuse.

Next up on the agenda are the first of two Maovember Pub Quizzes (this one at Paddy’s) and a blind tasting pitting Chinese and French wines against one another at Café de la Poste; mark your calendars for these events and more as we roll into November.
