Burger Brief: Meaty, All-American Burgers at Home Plate BBQ

Burger Brief takes a look at some of the attendees of the Beijinger's 2017 Burger Cup. This time we visited Courtyard 4 masters of smoke and meat Home Plate BBQ. And of course, don't forget to vote in the latest round of the Burger Cup!

As former three-time winners of the Burger Cup (2012, 2013, 2014), Home Plate BBQ come to this year's Burger Cup, as every year, with a well-established pedigree. Marketing Manager Bill Chen puts that success down to two simple things: good ingredients and, most importantly, flavor. For Home Plate, the number one priority has always been applying time-honored techniques to good quality ingredients, offering diners a taste of classic Americana.

Home Plate is perhaps best known for authentic southern barbecue – pulled pork, brisket, et al – but where the real magic happens is when those barbecue meats meet their burgers, as in the hulking Ba-Donk burger (RMB 128). This burger behemoth contains a beef patty, cheddar cheese, two slices of bacon, Home Plate's original sausage, pulled pork, barbecue beef brisket, jalapeños, onions, fried pickles, and barbecue sauce. This is the kind of burger which, should you choose to eat it for lunch, will require a significant afternoon nap.

All of Home Plate's burgers, including the Ba-Donk, come without sides but you can choose to add a side of coleslaw, potato salad, Texas ranch beans, hush puppies, creamed corn, or french fries with any burger or barbecue burger for just RMB 13. We like the variety and southern stylings of Home Plate's sides but, as Bill points out, nothing goes better with a burger than good ol' french fries. And to drink? Why, craft beer, of course. Bill recommends an IPA, which will hold up against the strong, smokey flavors of the burger.

The Beijinger team are also big fans of the Itis burger (RMB 98), which we profiled for our "Grilled" series during last year's Burger Cup. Equally as hefty as the Ba-Donk burger, the Itis features two beef patties, two slices of bacon, two slices of cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, aioli sauce, and, the pièce de résistance, fried pickles.

The Beijinger 2017 Burger Cup is sponsored by Bon App, Job-in, and Left Hand App. Vote now to give your favorite burger a much-needed push to the finish line!
