EAT: Napa Closes, Sunday Spritz at Migas Mercado, Tribe SLT Turns Four, RMB 1 Sushi at Hagaki

Sad news to kick us off today, as Californian-style restaurant Napa announce that they have had to close their Shunyi restaurant due to disagreements with their landlord. We reviewed the restaurant just a couple of months ago, praising their creative dishes such as sambuca mussels and clams and mapo burrata pizza. A sad loss for the Beijing restaurant scene and – although there's no word on this yet – we hope they'll be looking into opening another location.

Below is an extract from their statement:

"Unfortunately, Napa in Shunyi is permanently closed. Even though we just soft opened recently, we have no choice but to shut down due to strategic and operational disagreements with our landlord. Napa's signage may still be up, but the current owner/operator of the space has zero affiliation with us."

You can read more about the closure here.

Drown your sorrows with new weekend drinks deals at Migas Mercado. On Saturday evenings, they've teamed up with Grey Goose to offer watermelon martinis for RMB 70 and bottles of Grey Goose for RMB 900. If you'd prefer something a little more chill, on Sundays, Aperol spritzes (your editor's favorite cocktail of all time) are just RMB 45 all day, down from RMB 70. Good excuse for a Sunday session, we say.

Tribe Sanlitun turns four this Friday, Jul 20, and they are celebrating with a superhero-themed extravaganza to mark all those years of serving superfood-packed salads and snacks. They actually put together a few statistics about their last four years (see the full infographic in this post) and some of the figures are astounding: 48,008 salads and 50,100 grain bowls sold, and 5,510 glasses of green juice pressed. On the night of the party, come dressed as your favorite superhero to take part in the festivities (or borrow from their dress up box), with free-flow superhero snacks from 7-8pm and plenty of games and competitions to take part in.

Finally, Hagaki at EAST Beijing have a frankly crazy deal where you can get a sampler of their signature sushi rolls for just RMB 1 when you purchase any other sushi roll, sushi platter, or main course (their eel maki rolls are pictured at top). Alternatively, buy a bottle of Kotsuzumi Rojo Arimom Junmai Daiginjo sake (delicious served chilled in this hot weather) for RMB 728 and get 50 percent off all sushi rolls. We're calling it, it's the summer of sushi.
