Shuangjing Restaurants Hit By New Regulations

Restaurants in the Pingod area of Shuangjing have been hit by a series of new changes that affect kitchens and cooking methods, specifically frying. For example, Plan B is currently closed but expect to be back up and running with a new menu by the weekend. Asking what people can expect once Plan B reopens with a rejigged menu, Trevor Metz told the Beijinger, "Burgers are so last year and I am getting back to my earlier Beijing roots and also expanding into a cuisine not found at Plan B before." Popular vegan restaurant RootPop, also located in the area, was unavailable for comment but posts in a vegan community on WeChat suggest that they are looking to relocate.

Pachapapi Lunch Menu

With a couple of months in business under their belt, Pachapapi has now launched a set lunch menu. For RMB 88, you get a choice of appetizer and main course, as well as a drink. The set lunch showcases several different sections of their menu, including their nikkei-style sushi rolls (a mashup of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine) and their Chifa (Chinese-Peruvian) cuisine. Our top pick is the ají de gallina (available as a main course), a creamy mix of shredded chicken, milk, parmesan, walnut, bread, potato, and ají amarillo.

Chef André Chiang at Opera Bombana

On the evening of Saturday, Nov 24, Chef André Chiang will work with three Michelin starred chef Umberto Bombana to put on a gala dinner at Opera Bombana. Both chefs are well recognized in their respective culinary fields, having both been presented with the “lifetime achievement award” by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. The dinner is set to feature both Sichuan (Chef André's first restaurant in China is in Chengdu) and Italian dishes. Of course, an event like this doesn't come cheap; dinner is priced at RMB 2,888 per person.
