Top 50 Most-watched Chinese Films from 2011 to 2019

China’s film industry has been going through a rough time as of late and the decreasing number of moviegoers is seen as a reflection of the current state of the industry. Despite takings of a record high of RMB 5.8 billion during this past Chinese New Year season, that total was due to increased ticket prices, not increased ticket sales. The total number of viewers actually decreased by 15 million. As the online video sector is extremely competitive in China, Zhenjing currently doesn’t have an obvious edge to excel. However, it may simply be a strategic move to further engage with young consumers in order to sell more electronic products in the future.
