The highly rated Dosem is one of the leaders of Spain’s crop of emerging techno talents. The young Catalan arrives in Beijing this weekend to head up the latest in local DJ/VJ collective Science of Sounds’ never-ending experiment into the limits of pure pleasure and passion at Lantern. Here’s what he had to say as he packed his bags for the trip.

Yes, I know, “greening” is not a correct use of the present continuous tense. However, Greening the Beige is a wordsmith’s eccentricity used to encapsulate a project I started back in 2007. The name is no less a play on words than its Chinese translation: 点废成绿  (dian fei cheng lv), derived from a well known chengyu reminiscent of “turning over a new leaf”, and most cleverly transformed into “it’s time to turn the city’s trash into green.”

Switch back ten years ago and you’ll find the roots of this weekend’s SWITCH ON touring event. The cross-cultural event linking Swiss and Chinese electronic artists kicked off last Friday in Shanghai, gathering together more than 350 clubbers. The tour arrives in Beijing this Friday night at Tango with BaiCai’s special guest, Luciano, founder of Cadenza Records. The outstanding DJ and prolific producer is headlining the two-story extravaganza that will run between Mango and Tango’s main floor. On Saturday night the tour closes at White Rabbit with a notable line-up of live acts, visual artists, and DJs.

As punk rock child prodigies and teenage electro-rockstars, it’s not so far out there to say that DJ brothers, Andi and Hannes, better known today as Gebruder Teichmann, have music running through their veins. The energy and finesse generated at their live shows no doubt come as a result of their life-long experience as musicians and performers. As Gebr. Teichmann prepare for their debut show in Beijing on Nov 15, I had a chance to ask the composer-musician-artist-visionary-siblings more about what-why-and-how it is exactly that they’ve come to make such innovative music, beyond just being born with a gift for it naturally.

Carissa Welton: Coming from a musical family, how were your artistic talents nurtured from a young age?

Over the weekend BaiCai Productions presented one of the most sought-after artists in the electronic music scene. If you missed him, shame on you. Loco Dice, who made his first visit to China last summer at The Bank, has been a regular guest at some of the most legendary clubs and festivals worldwide.

The kinship between BaiCai and Loco Dice comes as no surprise. Over the last two years BaiCai has been dedicated to bringing innovative artists to the capital in efforts to further the understanding and appreciation of electronica in China. The main goal of the local production group is to put Beijing on the world club tour map alongside destinations like Berlin, Ibiza, New York, and Tokyo. If there's any DJ that can fulfill BaiCai's aim, it's Loco Dice.

that's Beijing: Your music has been described as "chunky", "tribal", and "bass-driven" house. How would you describe it yourself to someone who's never heard it?

Loco Dice: [laughs] I'd say there are a lot of ingredients in my music that fall under house, jazz, R and B, and some dubby stuff. But I'm totally against classifying my music into one category. People have to listen to my music to fully understand it.
