Weekend Nightlife: Fatboy on Great Wall

No doubting where the biggest party of this weekend is – it’s the much anticipated Great Wall Music Festival featuring ‘90s UK dance legend Fatboy Slim out near Badaling. I’d bet on a crowd-pleasing set of dance floor classics, with a healthy dose of Fatboy’s own best-known tracks (hopefully not anything he produced after about 2000, though). Let's get one thing straight: The party's not on the Wall, just beside a section of it, though you can go for a walk up during the day if you're so inclined.

Shunyi Rocks! Rynostock This Saturday

UPDATE: In a change to the original plan, organizers Acupuncture Records have announced that May 21-22's INTRO 2011 electronic music festival has been moved to 751 D-Park in 798 Art District - the event will not take place at Tongzhou Canal Park as previously advertised.

Philadelphia’s Josh Wink was at the forefront of the early ’90s rave scene in the US, melting dance floors and scoring hits with tracks like “Higher State of Consciousness.” Two decades on, Wink brings his record bag for a headline set at the biggest weekend on Beijing’s electronic music calendar, INTRO 2011, which takes place May 21-22 at 751 D-Park in 798 Art District (moved from originally planned Tongzhou Canal Park). We warmed Wink up for Beijing by asking him about Star Wars, Radiohead and his shifting perception of the humble banana.

Our Music Editor has been doing a fine job prepping us on what to expect from the music festivals. This year we can choose from Midi, Strawberry or Music Valley – or hit up all three, since they each take place over the span of three days (April 30-May 2).

How does Country Fair work?
Country Fair developed out of a need to connect Beijing’s organic farmers with the city’s consumers. The event – modeled after farmers’ markets like those in Canada or the US – works as a platform for consumers to engage directly with the people who feed them, and for farmers to practice direct marketing. Our hope has been that the Country Fair events will increase consumers’ understanding of our urban food system, supporting the efforts of Beijing’s small-scale organic producers.

We've been hearing stories on how Midi was better than Strawberry, and I tend to agree because I'd rather see less bands but survive with enough water supplies. Anyway, the May holiday was fun, but it's not finished yet. Since Beijing now only has two seasons (where else in this world will soar to 31 degree from 15 in one day?), we definitly need more varieties in music genres. Ditan Park Music Festival features the city's leading folk and world music artists, with honorable line-ups including Hanggai, The Redbucks, Zhang Quan, Mamer, Afrokoko Roots, Shan Ren, Mademoiselle and many more.

Weekend Live Music Roundup: Festival Season, Show Oligarch and Shanghai Attack

Right, without further ado - outdoor festivals, rock shows, basically everyone from Beijing's live music scene is out there performing this weekend, foreign bands at festivals are also playing solos, even Show Oligarch (who perform like once a year, read more about the band here, P64) is rocking their fierce materials tonight. More to say, Boys Climbing Ropes on Saturday, I've been waiting for this for quite some time, these Shanghai rockers are just everything punk rock is about.

Enough is enough, instead of keep sitting here reading all these, let's go out and get rocking!!!
