We’ve tallied up the total that was raised at our recent annual Charity Super Quiz (RMB 23,540), all of which will be going to the Ping An Medical Foster Home. Ping An provides care for orphaned children with medical needs and helps pay for their operations. It was founded in 2003 and the Beijinger has been helping raise funds through various events for them since 2005. Still not sure what that money means to those kids? Last year, the proceeds from our Charity Super Quiz (RMB 28,042) went towards a surgery for hydrocephalus for Feng Xiuyun, a cleft palate surgery for Zhao Changhao as well as milk powder and diapers for the foster home.

This Sunday, the Beijinger brings back our annual Charity Super Quiz to raise funds for the Ping An Medical Foster Home. We thought we'd take this opportunity to show you what your participation in Sunday’s quiz will do, by telling you a bit about what Ping An does and what we’ve been able to give to them in past years.

We're delighted to belatedly tell you what your great efforts at The Beijinger 2011 Charity Super Quiz raised. The grand total was a whopping RMB 28,042. Well done to everyone involved. The Beijinger 2010 Charity Super Quiz took place at Hard Rock Café last Sunday (December 5), raising an impressive RMB 29,800 so far for Ping An Medical Foster Home. With a number of the participating venues pledging to add to that tally with post-quiz donations, the grand total should break the RMB 30,000 mark – not bad for four hours of pub quizzing on a Sunday evening.

This Sunday marks the return of The Beijinger 2010 Charity Super Quiz. Not only do you get to have a great time but the proceeds of the night go to a worthy cause. The Ping An Charity Foster Home is a local home for orphans with disabilities that works towards getting the children the surgery and care they need. Ping An has been a cause close to the Beijinger’s heart for the last five years.

On the eve of the quiz, we sat down with Teresa Woo, one of the founders of Ping An, to find out more about the charity’s work, the ups and downs of charity work, and how we can all help.

With such a vast population and so many social issues, China’s problems can often feel overwhelming. No single individual can solve everything, but we can make a huge difference to individual lives. Since 2005 the Beijinger has supported the Ping An Medical Foster Home, a charity that strives to help Chinese orphans born with disabilities or diseases who require surgery. We are currently collecting money for our annual donation.
