We already let you know last week that the 48 Hour Film Project, the annual short film competition that’s been running in Beijing for three years now, will not be taking place this weekend as planned. Also not taking place: the Food, Film & Friends cooking/film screening event at The Hutong. Also, Hunger Games is finally set to hit theaters, and several art exhibits are closing up shop. Read on for details.

You don’t need us to tell you it’s a good time to take your food and drink outside. After the torrential rains on Tuesday, yesterday was probably the most perfect day of the year to do just about anything outside, so we hope you got your fill. But while you're sitting in front of your computer screen, we've got some news for you, from more al fresco options and a new Jenny's opening, to updates on the new venture by Chef Billy of Chef Too and a new brunch in town.

In 2012 so far, you’ve had your chance to catch everything from 3-D blockbusters to old classics, from Chinese indie flicks to art films from all over the world.

No doubt one of the biggest reasons this cinematic variety is now available to you is screening organizers Electric Shadows, founded and helmed by cinephile and independent filmmaker Vicky Mohieddeen. If you haven’t given her a high-five lately, here’s your chance to show some love. They’re celebrating their third birthday Saturday night with a party on The Bookworm’s rooftop, and you’re invited!

We have ahead of us a week based on decay, but that’s OK, because sometimes things need to die for other things to grow, right? Is that morbid? Read on for info on a new film screening series kicking off with an Italian flick about corpse-trading, an art exhibit that starts with fresh fruit and ends with not-so-fresh-fruit, and the sendoff for the National Museum’s “Art of the Enlightenment” series.

World Class: Beijing's Beautiful Bookstores

In a ranking of the world’s twenty most beautiful bookstores, Beijing appears twice as much as any other city.
