2010 May 21 Beijing’s Best Restaurants: The Beijinger vs City Weekend


Yesterday we compared the results of the Beijinger’s Bar & Clubs Awards with our crosstown rival’s recently announced awards. Today we do the same with restaurants – comparing the results of our reader survey concluded in March and City Weekend’s reader awards announced last week.
2010 Mar 17 The Winners! Beijinger’s 7th Annual Reader Restaurant Awards

Yesterday (March 16) saw the best of Beijing’s culinary talent gather at Joy Luck for the Beijinger’s 7th Annual Reader Restaurant Awards, the capital’s oldest and most credible dining awards. 191 Beijing restaurants were nominated across 35 categories, and over 5,000 votes were collated to come up with this year’s results. Hosted by the wonderful Dominic Johnson-Hill of Plastered 8 T-shirts and Beijing personality Ai Wan, the awards attracted a diverse crowd of revelers as they rolled on through the afternoon.

Kro’s Nest, a Beijing dining institution since 2006 and winner of The Beijinger’s 7th Annual Reader Restaurant Award for “Outstanding Pizza,” has been news since this spring over the legal battle between partner’s Olaf Kristoffer – “Kro” – and Yuan Jie. Kro was ousted from the Kro’s Nest restaurants he helped found, and there were even reports of an assault on Kro, not to mention police involvement and other drama.
