Napoli/Casablanca

Despite its basement location, Napoli’s sunny, Mediterranean decor (white stucco walls and marine blue hues) should have you lighten your mood even before you’ve ordered. Friendly, thoughtful service and warm bread keep the optimism ticking over until your food arrives. Pizzas (large sizes RMB 58-85) account for around half of the menu, which also offers a range of Middle Eastern dishes. A cracker-thin base and fine balance of toppings versus cheese distinguished the Quattro Stagioni, but there are over ten other choices.

The authentic offerings at this Moroccan restaurant include leafy salads, hearty tajines brimming with lamb, almonds, prunes and caramelized onions, and rustic national dishes like lemon couscous, Pastilla pigeon pie, handmade pastries and sweet Moroccan mint tea. Downstairs, Escobar stocks a decent range of affordable Spanish wines.
