Top Seeds Move On as Burger Cup Gets Down to the Quarterfinals

Our pre-tournament seedings have proven accurate as The Burger Cup rolls on to the quarterfinals, with most top seeds in all four brackets moving on to the matches that will decide The Final Four.

In Bracket A, No. 1 seed Great Leap sent 4corners (#4) packing, while 2-seed The Local stuffed Biteapitta (#3), setting up a final with the bracket’s top two seeds.

Meanwhile, Bracket B saw Slow Boat (#1) sailing past Lily’s American Diner (#4), and Plan B (#2) stuffing Stuff’d. Plan B now matches up against Slow Boat for the only quarterfinal match between two non-Sanlitun contestants.

Over in Bracket C, reigning Burger Cup champ Home Plate (#1) outmatched Temple Bar (#4). They now move on to challenge #3 seed Union Bar and Grille (now reopened), which snuck by Let’s Burger by a mere handful of votes.

Finally, Bracket D top seed The Big Smoke smoked Wudaokou’s Lush (#5) and blue frog (#3) leaped forward despite a very strong showing by Frost Coffee, Cocktails and Dining (#2).

So we’re down to 8… the matchups are:

Great Leap (1) vs The Local (2)
Slow Boat (1) vs Plan B (2)
Home Plate (1) vs Union Bar and Grille (3)
The Big Smoke (1) vs blue frog (3)

Get out there and try them if you haven’t already … and if you have, vote here to help us select the Final Four.

As we get closer to the finals, the rounds are getting shorter -- this time around you only have until Thursday (Sept 18) to vote!

And for you stats geeks out there, we asked voters what they thought was a reasonable price to pay for a burger (no sides) in a Beijing burger joint. You voters returned with an overall average of RMB 44, while the sweet spot was somewhere at RMB 36-40, a price that more than 77% of all burger-lovers surveyed considers “reasonable.”

Finally, we asked voters to rank the venues that were eliminated in the second round of balloting (recall two were disqualified as they had yet to debut their burgers on their regular menu). Here's the reader-generated rankings of #17-32:

17. Katchup
18. Flamme
19. Paddy O'Shea's
20. Burger Bar
21. Nola
22. Q Mex
23. Beer Mania
24. Migas
25. Morton's of Chicago
26. Tim's Texas Bar-B-Q
27. Windy City
28. The Irish Volunteer
29. Burgers & Beer
30. The Cut, Fairmont Beijing
31. The Kro's Nest
32. Rumi

Whatever floats your boat

^ I think Blue Frog's burgers are the same no matter which location you visit, so no assumptions necessary: Blue Frog is a venue with a presence in SLT

So the Blue Frog location is assumed to be the SLT location to make the article's statement true.

It doesn't say The Big Smoke is in Sanlitun.

The only reference to Sanlitun is in this sentence: "Plan B now matches up against Slow Boat for the only quarterfinal match between two non-Sanlitun contestants."

Which remains true: Plan B vs Slow Boat is the only match that features two venues that do not have locations in Sanlitun.

Great Leap (not in SLT) vs The Local (in SLT)
Slow Boat (not in SLT) vs Plan B (not in SLT)
Home Plate (one location in SLT) vs Union Bar and Grille (in SLT)
The Big Smoke (not in SLT) vs blue frog (one location in SLT)

Hence all matches have at least one contestant with a location in SLT ... except Slow Boat vs Plan B.

Sanlitun doesn't go west of Xindong Lu, does it?

no it doesn't. Why do you ask?
