How to Access 'Game of Thrones' Legally for RMB 10 a Month

You’d totally kick your BitTorrent habit if there was a legit and easy way to pay for your favorite TV shows and movies right?

I mean, if the option was open to you, you’d kind of be ethically-bound to explore it right? Well, too late! If you’ve read this far, you’re on the hook.

Put down that sword and put your peg-legs up, because here be a way for you to access HBO shows like Game Of Thrones, Silicon Valley, and Veep, for only 10 kuai a month – way less than you ever paid for fake DVDs.

There’s one caveat – you need to have either a smart TV or a TV set-top box like a Xiaomi Hezi (which range from RMB 199 to RMB 299). But once you’ve made that initial outlay, you’ll be able to mainline non-stop content.

Here’s how you do it:

  • If you don’t already have one, set up a QQ number here first.
  • Then, go to the Tencent TV website here.
  • Click on the big orange button to download the 云視听.企鵝TV app.

  • Put the app on a USB.
  • Put the USB into your set-top box or smart TV.
  • Open the app to install it.
  • Open the app and then click on "我的" in the bottom left-hand corner.
  • Then click "账号"
  • Scan the QR code using WeChat on your phone to activate your membership. This is the part where you use your QQ number.

  • Then, find "会员" on the bottom bar list.
  • Click the big red activate "HBO鼎级剧场" membership button.
  • Click on some of the HBO content like Game of Thrones and then scan the QR code to pay using WeChat wallet.
  • Shiver me timbers! Your pirating days are over. Start watching Game of Thrones, Veep, and Silicon Valley for as little as RMB 10 a month.

Actually, it’s not just those shows. There’s also The Wire, The Newsroom, The Sopranos, Show Me A Hero, Six Feet Under, The Comeback, Girls, True Detective, Boardwalk Empire, and a bunch more.

And if you pay more, you can watch Tencent’s whole catalogue of movies guilt-free.

This is just one of the apps you can download to your set-top box or smart TV. Let us know of any other good streaming apps in the Comment section below.
