Review the second.... post name/owner-change.

Well, after this place has changed hands numerous times and the original owner ran off with his pile of money. The place has, like pretty much all places, gone downhill. The portions, once large, are now tiny. The food, once good, is now crap. Really typical actually. There was some margin in the place at the beginning, but their food was decent. After being passed around the room like a red-headed stepchild though, gotta recoup those investments, can't jack up the price too much.... so, the only thing left to cut is quality and quantity.

Mini donuts to die for!

I pass by this place everyday but was only recently attracted when I saw the sign for ice cream floats. But then I saw mini donuts on the menu and decided to give it a try. Wow! So good! A bag cost me 12 kuai and I ordered a bucket for 50 to bring to class which was devoured almost instantly. BLCU will never be the same.
I've never tried the hot dogs or fries but I can give the mini donuts and ice cream a full 5 stars. Just like home or maybe better since it's been way to long.

Based on previous positive reviews I ordered a cheesburger and chilidog to go.

Arriving home in less than 5 minutes my chilidog was basically soup in a wrapper. Perhaps this is my fault, but it should have stayed together longer than that. Using a spoon the chili tasted ok and the hotdog was soso. I gave the rest to my dog.

The burger....the patty was the smallest patty I've ever seen. It was no more than HALF the size of the bun, and I didn't see anything that looked like cheese...but I did enjoy the red and yellow peppers.

There was no foreigner there. A local, friendly girl with decent English cooked my order.

Nice find

The first time I went I was turned off by the Chinese server working the counter, as I expected the food to be like every other "authentic" American food place in Wudaokou. I decided to give it another try after my Chinese friend recommended it and insisted it was run by an American.

The second visit was for a burger, which was prepared by the American owner. It was amazing on a toasted bun and 100% beef according to him. I was also talked into ording fries for 10 kuai, but I was a little hesitant as the picture out front makes them look like every other frozen sliver served around. A giant sack of potatoes in the back proved otherwise and the cup of potato wedges were the best. I don't even know where I can get those kind in my hometown back in Michigan, with most places serving up pre-frozen ones.

After living in Beijing for three years, I had pretty much given up on Western food. The 60 kuai burgers at Western chain restaurants are great, but nothing like a nice 100% beef one for only 20 kuai. It was a sad day when I preferred McDonald's over a lot of the food they serve on the bar street in Wudaokou. American Holy Fries is a great bang for your buck for those that don't want to drop 60 kuai at a restaurant and are sick of 10-20 kuai knockoffs.

Really great find!

I stumbled (literally) upon Holy Fries one night near midnight. The owner is a really great guy from New York, USA. He is a very interesting fellow, and speaks pretty good Chinese. The stand itself is tiny, and I just at at the outside counter, if I can call it that. I had a hot dog and fries. It is not so much an "American" hot dog, but better! It is not a tiny, pink link of who knows what. Rather, it is a nice, long sausage, and his choice of toppings was really great. The fries come with ketchup and some other sauce, and they were delicious. My conversation with him was very interesting, and overall the food was great, and I had a great experience! Also, he uses only Halal/Kosher cooking oil (hence, "Holy" Fries), if that matters to you. Great guy, great food, really cheap. I highly recommend it!

Literally the Greatest, most authentic american food you can eat in beijing to my knowledge. The outside is modest, may be a little difficult to find, but well worth the search!!! The owner is american, speaks chinese, and some of the girls who work there speak english too. best donuts, best fries, best customer service; it's like being home.

Going downhill?

Holy fries used to be my favorite place in WDK, it was a must go to every time i was in the area. I really loved the variety of sauces and the small simple homey look of the tiny shop really attracted me.

I have been to holy fries a few times after their renovation, and i must say i really hate the new look. They had changed their name to American Holy Fries, and the huge uncle Sam poster pointing a finger at you is really annoying when you are trying to order. The big tv playing American football is also disorienting and just seems like they are trying too hard to make you realize that this place is AMERICAN.

They have added a few other options like burgers and sandwiches as well as a few new hot dogs. The worst thing for me is they completely took away the fancy sauces!! Now there's only one kind of fries, though they let you squeeze all the ketchup/mustard/mayonnaise you want :), i still miss the cheese and bacon :(
Im not crazy about the dogs there, but they are decent and better than most ive had. I only had the burger once and though i enjoyed the flavor the meat was hard to chew and very difficult to enjoy.

Their new added chili bowl was actually quite good. It came with a piece of baguette it was spicy, which i like, and full of flavor. The huge disappointment to this was that the chunks of meat were too big and tasted like they were burnt or something. I ended up just avoiding them and enjoyed the rest of the chili.

All in all i miss the old holy fries, but i still give a 4 star for the good times we had :)

Alright Times at Holy Fries

I ate at American Holy Fries (or whatever the new name is) last night.

I think it says "Donuts" now.

I paid 15rmb for an American hot dog, and 10rmb for fries.

I loved the portions (HUGE,) and I really enjoyed the fries. Potato skins were on the fries, which I enjoy. The fries were as big and thick as lincoln logs, which some people like, and some people don't. Potatoes are easy to cook, but really difficult to make memorable. This place has great fries.

Gone are the fancy dressings, but to tell you the truth, I wasn't crazy about them a few months ago. But the best thing: They leave out squeeze bottles of condiments, and let you go nuts and drown your fries in ketchup, instead of giving you two little packets like a lesser establishment.

The hot dog was alright. I'm a New Yorker, so I'll always be kind of down on anything that isn't a NY hot dog, but I enjoyed it. If I was craving a hot dog at the time, I would have loved it more. NOTE: It was a fully loaded dog, which is great. But raw cabbage isn't a great topping, and kind of comes across as meaningless filler. Fry up some onions and I'd be hooked at twice the price.

Their donuts were just okay. A little crisp. Still, better than any other Chinese bakery "fauxnuts." Maybe they can literally straighten this out and make a churro. Or a funnel cake.

The staff is really nice and helpful, and seem to want to get to know their clientele. Good sign.

well...you have to be really hungry to eat here.

walked by two weeks ago, met the new american owner, so i thought i give it a try.

hot dogs are ok, although a bit pricy according to me.

however, the guy changed the name of that place from holy fries into american holy fries (fries are a belgian dish anyways, so you could also name a burger place ethiopian holy burgers. where is the sense in that??) and said that the fries are sooo good and absolutely worth trying, so i ordered them.

they are disgusting. MAN, if you run a place called AMERICAN HOLY FRIES i freaking expect those fries to be good or at least better than what those places around you serve. the fries at la bamba are ten times better than what the serve at AHF, so don't get them.

you better rename that place into american holy can coke or something...

If you are a human being you MAY avoid it. AVERAGE TO WORST

I have enjoyed their hot dogs and fries for several weeks already. Their sauces are not smooth as expected, one still tends to find bits of egg white, but then it gives you a taste of home made food.

However be warned..

AVOID IT LIKE PLAGUE..After regularly eating here for several weeks, last week I packed two hot dogs for take away. I bit into a nice looking hot dog, only to be hurt by a sharp glass piece inside the sausage, when I took a bite.

They have no sense of food safety and quality. I hope nobody is unlucky enough to come across dangerous objects inside most loved foods.Specially when you are living far away from home !!!!!

I hope there are more responsible chains making similar kind of food for students like us who love HOT DOGS and FRIES !!

OMG Holy Fries

Passed by last night

If The Beijinger had a category for best Hot Dog this place would win hands down
I had the corn dog and in the span that mine was made and eaten about 10 other people had passed by for a dog of some type or other.

People love this food, but also the people who run it.

I am sure we will see this place for a while to come.

Delicious!

Great to have something new in the Wu. I drop by there 3-4 days a week now and I'm officially addicted. Their dogs are really good and stuffed and the fries with sauces are super delicious. Heard they're adding hot churros too now. I'll try them later this week.

great fries, great hot dogs

great fries with dips: try the "spicy sanchez", or "the oskar" = great tartare sauce..
and seriously the best hot dogs in town.

Finally something new in Wudaokou!

Holy Fries is, on the day of writing this review, a newly opened take-away place serving french fries and hot dogs. The owner is the founder of Crazy Dogs (used to be next to the other hot dog place in WDK), the first hot dog place in Wudaokou, and still has the absolute best hot dogs in the area, in addition to the fries.

And the fries are new in Beijing. You can get them with a bunch of sauces and toppings and it's freaking delicious. I used to get this back in California and finally I can get my fries with tartar sauce, aioli, nacho cheese and bacon, and a bunch of other home made sauces and stuff here in Beijing.

Maybe I'm biased, but I just love fries, and especially when they're done this well. Sauce me :)
