Avocado Tree 油梨树
Taking inspiration from America's Chipotle chain, this Wudaokou eatery offers big burritos filled with fresh ingredients and imported Australian beef. Generous, chunky guacamole and fried tortilla chips rounds out a meal.

Xiao longbao
AT: I had a burrito there a while ago and it was decent. Guac was good and chips/salsa are good (I like chunky salsa more than runny salsa. Salsa wasn't that spicy tho).
What I'm reviewing is the Chinese restaurant that seems to share the space. I think it's this XiaoLongBao place that used to be in ZGC Carrefour (next door to RBT). Of course, they XLB can't compare to Dintaifung, but for the price, they're very decent. Much better than those 'side of the road' breakfast baozi stalls. Beef noodle soup was OK although a little bit oily. The flavor was right, though.
IMO, it's the best XLB in the neighborhood - my new go-to place for non-Chengduxiaoche-esque Chinese food.

Pretty good despite a few annoyances
I go here about once a week with my wife. We usually just get burritos, so I will stick to talking about those. At the beginning, the burritos were rather bland, but then they changed their recipe a few months ago and they are much tastier now. I will corroborate other reviewers' observation that the burritos don't have enough meat. For an additional 8 kuai I always get my chicken burrito with double-meat (双份肉) to compensate.
Their guacamole is good, but their chips are too oily as others have pointed out. They do get them nice and salty, though, if you like that sort of thing. Their salsa (more like pico de gallo) is only so-so. It's too chunky for my tastes (it has almost no liquid, just chopped up tomatoes and other stuff).
Their ambiance is good, but I find their menus up on the wall ugly and disorganized. They have also started dabbling in regular old Chinese food as well, which worries me a little. I want a burrito place that specializes in burritos, dammit!
Their music is a good mix of alternative rock and sometimes some other stuff.
It might be four stars if I stopped here, but here are some other annoyances:
The burritos are wrapped poorly. The double-meat doesn't help the situation, but if they can't wrap it they shouldn't sell it. Oftentimes the burrito isn't fully sealed, especially at the ends, and as you eat it starts falling apart. I have sent the burrito back a few times telling them to re-wrap it. They wrapped it in a second tortilla, which did the trick.
They don't provide free water. I mean, when was the last time you ate somewhere that didn't have free water? (Now they definitely know who I am since I put that in the complaint box every time)

Good tacos
The first time i went here i tried a burrito, it was so bland i dont even remember what it tasted like. Ever since then i steered clear from this place. But just today i was on my way home and was feeling famished, so remembering the bad experience i went for the small tacos. It was delish! A good balance of meat and veggies and very flavorful. A tad spicy, which is just how i like it, really felt like good Mexican food. It was a little squashed and soggy from the ride home but that doesnt bother me much. Havent had a decent taco in a long time and it was a pretty reasonable price of only 9 kuai. I took them to go and gave one to my brother, who also enjoyed it :)
I will be going back there again soon to see if theres any improvement on the burritos, but definitely try their tacos!

Don't Understand the Comparisons to Chipotle
I don't get the comparisons to Chipotle, they are both just fast food burrito places of which there are a million in the States. The food tastes nothing at all like each other and the menu choices are completely different. They don't even have Chipotle sauce! I thought it was decent for Mexican in Beijing, just nothing like Chipotle. The guacamole was probably the best I've had in Beijing but that's not saying too much.

Better than nothing
Avocado Tree probably warrants a 3 star but since there is nothing else like it in WDK I bumped it up to 4.
Burritos are overpriced for the sheer lack of meat. Mostly rice and veggies, which causes a lack of flavor. I have tried twice now and have same results as other readers.
Oddly enough, the soft tacos at 9rmb are a huge value, and seem to have more meat than the burritos. The chicken one isn't spicy, but tasty. They have 2 other beef tacos which are a little spicy and have good taste. If you eat in house they bring the tacos individually wrapped in a paper sleeve. However if you order them to go, they squeeze them all together wrapped in foil so when you arrive at home you have a wet soggy, stuck together mess.
Their fresh mint tea is not too bad either.
I haven't tried anything else on the menu yet...

Not bad--needs improvement though
Here's my honest review:
Avocado Tree is good. They need more cheese (especially sour cream) and I also wish the burritos didn't fall apart. They also need some more variety in the salsa--and WAY LESS salt in the salsa. The chips are not nearly as good as what you'll get at Pyro on their nachos. Too flimsy and not enough flavor.
Overall not bad though.

cockroach in my buritto
I read mr good looking review of this restaurant, and thought since I am fat and bulgy maybe a good supreme buritto would help me on my way to being buried in a piano box. Anyway the food was good until a cockroach was found in the lettuce, and I complained about it to the owner. He said how can you say that is a cockroach, I then showed him the legs. He accused me of putting them in there. I threw the buritto down and called the wei sheng ju. I would stay away from this place unless, you don't mind beijings own critters in your food. And Also I feel like a new man, having been spared eating the whole thing, maybe Mr euro tracy happy face who gave the restaurant 5 stars is right, maybe there is hope for my fat ass to be euro sexy and sweat free. Thank you for your help.
Buyer Beware.

Real good stuff, I was surprised how similar it is to Chipotle
First off I must say I prefer Qdoba over Chipotle, but that is irrelevant.
Anyways I walked into this place which is near the Lotus supermarket in Wudaokou, and it looked real slick and stylish. I am very happy now I can eat california style burritos again, its fast and simple and tastes good. For me the burritos are the right size, I am glad moving away from the US that everything is not a massive portion (i prefer not being fat).
Some suggestions:
More salsa selection: Green salsa, red salsa (spicy) other stuff too.
Grande Burritos: Not for me but many fat people feel the need to maintain a certain bulgy flabby shape, if not they may stop sweating uncontrollably.
But anyways real good I like the place.
Oh yeah a burrito is like 23 kuai (not expensive) . . . .. .considering it is western food.

good option in wdk
Ok, the fake reviews are a little shameful, but myself and friends have been eating at Avocado Tree pretty regularly since it opened, and here's my take:
Chips with guacamole and salsa for 15 kuai: it's tasty and fresh and you really can't get a better deal for guacamole anywhere else in Beijing. Sooometimes the chips are a little too oily and get a bit soggy, but probably 8 out of the last 10 times, they've been crispy, lightly salty and good.
Sure, the burritos are not quite as exciting, but I tend to enjoy my chicken burrito every time I have it. Basically, though I wouldn't necessarily go just for the burrito, it's decent enough that I'm happy to have one with my chips and guac, which I would go for. I've never had mine fall apart on me like the other reviewer, though I've heard quite a few grumbles about the low meat ratio. Personally, I've been in a stage where I get grossed out when there's too much meat in stuff, so I don't tend to notice when there's "not enough." For me, I'm happy when I get some meat every second or third bite. Shrug. (Plus, I miss sweet corn here, and the black beans are a nice touch.)
If there's anything AT can be criticized for, it would be the inconsistency. Sometimes it's a gamble, but when it's on it's quite satisfying.
The girl who owns/manages the place also seems pretty eager to keep customers happy. Couple friends of mine suggested she serve beer and start one of those "Buy X burritos get one free" and she implemented both within a week or so.
I have to admit I'm selfishly bumping my rating to 4 stars, cuz I'm pretty stoked I can get good, reasonably-priced guacamole in wdk, and I'll be sad if that golden goose stops laying its eggs...

Did we eat in the same restaurant?
After reading the reviews on TheBeijinger about Avocado Tree, I decided to give it a shot since it's right across from where I live. All I have to say is, damm, I got punk'd.
I came here with my boyfriend and brother and ordered a burrito each: Chicken, Steak and Shredded Beef. First complaint would be the wrapping/unwrapping of the burrito. On the serving tray that was given to us, there were instructions on how to unwrap the burrito. Pretty simple stuff, tear off a piece of the foil and just start slowly unraveling as you begin to chow down. As soon as I even touched my burrito, I could feel everything inside falling apart. The tortilla was soggy and sticking the foil as well as it was poorly wrapped with the contents spilling out within the first bite. I always thought that how the construction of a burrito is one of it's best attributes; tightly rolled to ensure flavour with each bite. Avocado Tree needs to go back and learn the basics.
Fail #2 was the flavour. Amongst the three burritos, the only one that had significant flavour was the Shredded Beef - it was spicy (even though we requested it not to be). The chicken was bland, the shredded beef tasted spicy with no real beef flavour and the steak was mundane. At one point while eating my burrito, I completely had forgotten what meat I had chosen, as I was just eating rice and vegetables. The ratio of meat to vegetable and starch was completely off balanced. I don't expect meat at every bite, but more flavour would have been nice.
The only good thing about Avocado Tree is that it is new and clean. Each burrito fills you up, but expect a lot of rice and vegetables.

At least put a little effort into your fake reviews
Apart from the other dead giveaways, the two glowing reviews above were made by new accounts created within 17 minutes of each other.
It's a f-ing insult to our intelligence, to assume we'd be so stupid as to believe either one was legitimate.
Consider my 1-star rating a bitchslap, and don't do it again.

just like chipotle!
If you like and miss chipotle, this place is just like chipotle, except I would say their shredded beef burritos are even better! I have no idea where they get their chipotle adobo sauce, must be imported, because it tastes so authentic. Definitely try it, their food speaks for itself.

BEST GUAC IN ASIA!!!
This place is brand new and they honestly make the best guacamole that I've EVER had in China, because it's actually made fresh everyday! All of their burritos are 20 something kuai, which I thought was cheap since they actually use imported, high quality ingredients. Everything is made fresh and in front of you, just like Chipotle, so I feel safe eating there. Everything seems to be super clean, feels like an american restaurant!
