Beijing Okhotsk Beer 北京欧可啤酒

Despite protestations from the manager, it would be a disservice to recommend a trip to Okhotsk Beer for its food. The food’s not overly bad, but as the venue’s name suggests, food isn’t the reason to brave the labyrinth of Phoenix City. In fact, there are four reasons that demand a visit to this neck of the woods: weizen, pilsner, ale and mild stout. Depending on how much you enjoy hop-based beverages, all can be supped from 300ml, 500ml or 1,000ml vessels and each beer is rated – albeit nonsensically – by its bitterness and aroma. Alcohol content is undisclosed, but the socially inept needn’t worry too much – a couple of pilsners will be more than enough to oil even the most awkward of situations, especially when consumed by the liter. Since there’s so much fake alcohol circulating around Beijing, it’s both reassuring and refreshing to have it brewed before your eyes and thus Okhotsk Beer’s main attraction lies behind the bar. Here, three sizeable copper vats and all the necessary apparatus for a microbrewery quietly work away to create the city’s most unique drinking experience to date. The kitchen also offers an assortment of salads, appetizers, pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes. Lots of drinks specials including Tuesday night's all-you-can-drink deals Lots of drinks specials including Tuesday night's all-you-can-drink deal on their four brews (RMB 99 for men, RMB 50 for women).

They will not honor their advertised prices

We wanted to avail of their "unlimited beer for 50 yuan" offer, but we were told that, contrary to what their website says, they now charge 99 RMB (however, ladies are half price.)

This place is really off the beaten track and, given that they no longer honor their special offer, hardly worth the effort just to be disappointed.

We will never return there!

Hungaro-Japanese or Japano-Hungarian?

Beijing Okhotsk is great. On most days of the week you can give them 50 kuai and they will give you as much as you can drink of two of their four brews. They're nice like that. Tuesdays in here used to be busier than a Scouse copper in a Hawaiian shirt and with good reason as the beer is not only a bargain but nice enough to drink by the bucket. They also sell food, which is never likely to win any awards but is nicer than most bar food. Whoever decided to mix the knowledge of Japan and Hungary is some manner of genius.

Location's the problem

This is a cool place, although the atmosphere is a bit flat and Ikeaesque. If they could get out of this location - sorry to anyone who lives in Phoenix City - they'd be loads busier. You can't argue with their microbrewed beers, and the pizzas are not bad at all.

My visits have turned me particularly against the location because it's always been bitterly cold when I've gone. It's also a bit of a lottery as to whether you can find a taxi or not on the way out. Still, as the weather warms up I'll return for another try.

Not at Lufthansa Centre

Pretty decent beer, this is originally a Japanese chain, reflected a little in the interior, the beer and menu are all very German(/Italian) inspired though.

A Lasagna, salad and garlic bread will set you back about 100 rmb, german sausages a hint pricier, 2for1 beers daily before 1930.

Main reason for leaving this comment is to avoid taking a taxi to the lufthansa centre, for the walk to Phoenix city in the blistering cold was not recommendable.
