CJW 雪茄爵士酒吧

Cigars, jazz and wine – that’s what CJW is all about. This bar chain started out in Taiwan before making it to the mainland, arriving firstly in Shanghai and eventually hitting the capital with a smoothly decored lounging spot in The Place. A haven for Rat Pack wannabes with cash to spend, the drinks don’t come cheap here, but the cocktails are well mixed, there’s a decent selection of food, and the terrace is one of the best people-watching spots in town. If the people aren’t fascinating enough for you, gaze up at the undersea visuals beamed out by The Place’s trademark overhead screen. Live jazz nightly, performers vary.

Good music and pleasant adult atmosphere

3 stars because I didn't eat here.
Came with a few friends as an 'after dinner' stop on a Friday evening. Not too crowded, nice dim lighting and pleasant service. We had booked a 'cigar' table. The small jazz band was very good, and later the feature singer came on stage and gave a strong performance. She kept saying 'no pictures' which was disappointing. I didn't think it was a mega star and I wanted to show my friends in the West that there are fun places in Beijing. Perhaps there was a reason I didn't understand. We didn't eat so no coments about the menu. Wash rooms were clean and pleasant (one of the main ways I evaluate bars/restaurants). So overall, pleasant cosy atmosphere. Good band and good service. Bit upscale but not pretentious.

Good lunch, Spacial house. Great light

Just had lunch there. I liked it. Ordered beef with pepper and Cesar salad. ( Forgive my spellings )

I liked the roof which is high and the glass on the ceiling made it even higher.

Black is the main color which gives me calm and high-ending feelings.

78rmb/person is quite OK for western style like this esepecially that I am trying to find good food without rice as lunch.

CJW looks like the logo of WSJ. It's a good marketing I think. It gives a feeling of classic.

Great food and music

This place is great. I am a regular here and love the band. The staff and food are also wonderful. The only complaint I would have is it can be a little pricey.... then again the band makes up for that!

looooove this place!

I Went to CJW on Saturday afternoon with some friends hoping to grab something to eat. Not really their fault, but when we asked for a menu they told us the kitchen was closed so no deal (it was 3:00pm so perhaps more my fault than theirs), they only had cheesecake etc. boo.

We were waiting on another group of friends to arrive and so ordered some tea to have while we waited. When our friends turned up the restaurant staff told us they couldn't sit there not eating/drinking while we finished our teas! It was a hilarious example of truly hopeless service, but as we know not that uncommon :(Needless to say we left shaking our heads with no incentive to go back.

I won't be back, and given the size of the space and the very ordinary track record of venues in the Place I give them 6 months....

Good place to relax and meet up someone

I like this place as it offers enough space and privacy that you are left to yourself.

Nobody bothers you , once you have your drinks and the place is lit enough for private meeting .

Drinks are good undoubtedly.
The settings are plush with sofas and perfect lighting and the jazz being played ,both
good for a just being yourself. A drink and a cigar makes you relax.

Of All The Gin Joints In Beijing...

This is going to be an unfair review because when I arrived there was no "J" in CJW. There was no Jazz, but I've heard it's a pretty sweet vibe when the music's going.

The place was a pretty well-lit space and that's always important to me because I'm not a vampire, nor a World of Warcraft addict, nor a cave dweller, nor a Cheney.

The decor was a mix of pompous-brandy sipping-New Yorker meets new-age but still middle-aged Chinese "Yes man"...Meaning it looked like someone just openned a popular magazine, turned a few pages, and said, "This looks hip, copy this exact design."

The bar feels completely void of any Chinese influence, besides the waitstaff and the crappy local beer.

Shanghai/Hong Kong trendy, Fail!

Snack food is available, decent and somewhat inexpensive when compared to the drinks at somewhere around 40 kuai, but as a pseudo-trendy bar it's best to stick with what they know best, the drinks!

The drinks come with alcohol in them. Seriously! I sh*t you not, you will be ordering a real alcholic beverage. Moreover, if you order a draft they will actually bring it in a glass the size of half a pitcher...Madness!

In closing, there's no pink shirt wearing, man purse toting, pretentious wannabes in CJW yet, but change will come...Like Ghostface Killah.

Great place for meeting or a date

Classy indoors, Professional staff, great drinks and also good food sum up CJW.

If they have the band on the weekends (mostly yes), its great to be there.

The band/singers are real pro and make the crowd feel good.

Though bit pricey, cool for change to make you feel you are in one of the best places in Beijing
