CHOCOLATE IS NOT SAFE FOR WOMEN. And the thug bouncers appear to be running a scam where they manufacture a grievance and then shake you down for money. After my experience last night, I believe that the Chaowai cops are at least looking the other way while they perpetrate this scam.

Here's what happened: my friend and i were repeatedly beaten by the security guard thugs who, similar to the complaint posted earlier, made up some complaint (that we broken a hookah) as an excuse to hit us, drag us by the arms and then shake us down for money when my friend bit one of them as he yanked her shoulder to drag her back into the club.

We are both women approximately 5'6 and 5'8; there were six hulking Chinese security guards surrounding us as one shoved and beat us. Had they elected to do worse to us, there would have been no one to stop them. As it is, we're lucky to have left the situation with bruised and with a fat lip.

The staff is a nightmare as well; they refused to give us water. (They refused to even sell my friend water after she asked to buy soda water for a friend with a medical condition, for a reason that could only assumed to have been spite.) Far more worryingly, when I demanded to be given tap water, the bouncer led me to the kitchen, where he shoved me to the ground while the staff looked on, and would have continued to assault me had the manager not finally arrived at the scene.

To some, Chocolate's seediness may add to its charm. I warn anyone who feels this way to stay sober and keep a keen eye on the staff and to avoid the bouncers at all costs. Based on our experience and other reviews, the bouncers are preying on foreigners to extort money from, and they are willing to use extreme violence to do so.

Heard about this bar but haven't had a chance to try until last night. It was a fun time, although without a group of friends it would have sucked a lot. just missed the performance when i got there, but i heard it was interesting. pretty much a bunch of hookers dancing around everywhere, but they are very hot. And that's coming from a girl so...yeah. Oh, there was a midget but he wasn't very friendly, understandable i guess having to work there.

Anyone who likes or enjoys Chocolate is a backwards, country hick in my book.

Whoever decided that this hell hole was the best new bar in Beijing is either getting a brown envelope or a complete pervert. This is not a bar. it is a big old airplane hangar with some whores and warm beer. the manageress is one of the rudest people in Beijing (that is quite a title beleive me) With clearly no experience in dealing with customers or actually running a legitimate business.
The Person Below has exspressed concern about all russian people being tarred with the 'Chocolate' brush but they need not worry. Simply tell everybody who has not been what a dive it is.

In fact I say shame on the Beijinger for their equally unprofessional plugging of this club because of some advertising spend. Amatuer, is what is written all over you.

Yes, you can say that the interior design is unique, but if you think twice, LAN Club is much better. If we forget about the design, then there is nothing left to talk about here.

Pls do not call a bar “The Best” only because you feel free to get drunk as a pig here and behave the way you would never behave in any other clubs in the city.

Well, back to ruined New Year’s party.

The service is truly bad, Russian waitresses are arrogant, Chinese staff is either shy or exhausted, not trained well or just stupid.

Yes, the prices in menu are really attractive, but I can not say the same about the food.

We paid more than 500 RMB per person for a set menu with bad champagne, inedible meager starters, very late and already cold main courses, plus 500 RMB for the sofa. Thanks God I ate before coming to Chocolate and right after I left it, same applies to the drinks.

The manager promised us a live band with old and modern Russian songs, she even kindly reminded over the phone a day before the party not to be late (!), as the band starts sharply at 10 pm.

We were in Chocolate from 10 pm to 2 am, there was no live band, all we saw was a terribly vulgar and badly planned show featuring the Russian Father Frost who was a gay and obviously knew too much about daily horny yabaolu life.

The timing for the lottery, balloon thing and owner’s (Svetlana) speech was so bad, that the guests had no chance to dance from 10 pm to 2 am, as the dancing floor was always busy. The DJ’ work I will not even start to describe, as during these four hours there were no good songs at all.

Can you imagine a club that can not even organize a proper New Year Countdown? Well, it is Chocolate. Believe it or not, but we counted twice, and it was a real mess.

In other words, being a Russian, I am ashamed of such bar, and really feel sorry for those laowais, who will charge the Russian people and Russian culture by this Chocolate bar. Ohhhhh!
