Did Ciro's Pomodoro Change?
Reviewed on Jan 27, 2012 3:16pm by fatboyReview of Ciro's Pomodoro3Assuming the recent reviews for this place are authentic(despite curiously recent membership for some said reviewers),how exactly did Ciro's change? This place's reputation for overpriced inferior dishes was such that an incoming Ciro's manager apologized publicly and asked locals to give it another try. I was waiting for some kind of win-back-the-trust super deal to follow, like a draft beer special or great food offering. So what changed? My three-star rating is a benefit of the doubt that this place has changed since my personally unfavorable dining experience there years ago.

Dragon Year....better than freezing....
Reviewed on Jan 22, 2012 9:08pm by GiambiReview of Ciro's Pomodoro3just arrived in Beijing, i am ready for the Amazing Chinese New Year and i go Sanlitun..surprise, surprise no one around, everything close down..where is everybody? ok, long story short: at least Ciro's Pomodoro is open! Food is quite ok, staff is great and funny, but music a bit loud for my taste and 80's style decoration is quite depressing, reminds me how old i am; all these stars from the past hanging on the wall...plus...who f*****g is Ciro?

Amazing rock'n'soul experience
Reviewed on Jan 18, 2012 9:53pm by ximoxReview of Ciro's Pomodoro5I went to Ciro's for the second time last Saturday and had an amazing time. The blues band was rocking and the drummer was hilarious whenever he addressed the crowd. Service was great, they were very attentive and when my girlfriend wanted to order a dish that was no longer on the menu they made it with no problem. The manager was really friendly and even had a shot with us. I will certainly be going back again and soon.

Not good enough to warrant the price
Reviewed on Oct 14, 2011 5:31pm by SteveWBTReview of Ciro's Pomodoro2The ingredients all seemed of decent quality, but there really wasn't enough of anything.
In particular, when the fried mozzarella starter arrived, the whole table burst out laughing at the minuscule portion. A large pizza needs more than 5 slices of pepperoni and from the menu description I'd guess the calzone should really have something inside other than a paltry amount of ham.
A request for no capers was ignored, but thanks to the meagre toppings I only had to remove three capers from a 10 slice pizza..
The only positive was that our waiter was perfectly pleasant.

New management
Reviewed on Sep 27, 2011 5:33pm by CirosPomodoroReview of Ciro's Pomodoro5After reading the recent reviews of Ciro's, I felt the need to place a comment here.
I have just recently taken over as manager at Ciro's Pomodoro, I am currently doing my best to fix all of the complaints that I've read here. All I ask is that those of you reading the poor reviews give us another chance. I promise you that the dining experience we will offer once these problems are fixed will be second to none.- 366 views

There's a first and last time for everything...
Reviewed on Feb 17, 2011 2:52am by JaneESLReview of Ciro's Pomodoro1This restaurant is one of the worst experiences I have had eating out. The place looks nice, (except for the creepy celebrity photos) but it is also the first time I have been cheated by another foreigner in China. The menu was very overpriced, and the staff was extremely pushy, trying to get us to order food we didn't want. When we did order, they brought us something which we didn't order (and was much more expensive than what we wanted). Once we realized the item was not what we had ordered we attempted to tell them. The Italian guy who I believe owns the place told us that since it was genuine Italian food, we should be happy to pay for it. He treated us like teenagers he had caught shoplifting not like a customer who had found dirt in their glass. This was an additional problem I attempted to bring to his attention but he was not interested. He simply continued to treat us as if we were mud on his shoes and as if his restaurant was the best in Beijing (which it is not, I can make better Italian food). We ended up paying for both the food we had ordered and the food which we had not ordered (which we didn't eat) and left. X( I and all my co-workers in Beijing will be avoiding this place like the plague. I asked someone who has lived in China for longer than I have their response was- you were swindled into giving the guy more money than even the overpriced menu would allow. Definitely a place to avoid. I know there is a really good pizza place just around the corner, and Bitapita next door is also really good. Sadly these were closed at the time were there, and we ended up in Ciro's Pomodoro.

Some positive Mostly negative
Reviewed on Feb 13, 2011 11:40pm by whoamibeijingReview of Ciro's Pomodoro2So for the positive points of Ciro's (Staff very friendly and attentive, out-door patio , decent music)
negative points ( Food is decent at best and WAY over-priced... you can eat at the nicest restaurants in Beijing for the price of Ciro's) All and All if you are just looking for a place to get a quick bite and dont mind spending some money then you will have a good staff serving you and will get to hear some pretty good music! If you are looking for a good meal, there are to many other place to go!- 187 views

wish I had read the reviews before I went
Reviewed on Aug 30, 2010 10:31pm by jonleblancReview of Ciro's Pomodoro1average food and very much over priced.
I found out that Monday's are buy "1 get 1 free" pizza night so we got 2 pizza's for 2 people. The pizza it self was only average, and the fresh tomatoes on top of the Vegetarian pizza made that pizza soaking wet and harder to eat. We ate more than half of both, and then when I asked for the remainder to be wrapped up they refused because it was 2 for 1 pizza night.
I also saw someone order the spaghetti and meatballs and it looked similar to Canned pasta from back in the US. (Franco-American)
I suggest that if you want better and cheaper pizza you go to Abella, O Sole Mio, or Scott's Family Italian.
Another option is The Den especially during the half priced happy hour.

Must be run by people with A.D.D.
Reviewed on Jul 20, 2010 8:06am by chinaaussieReview of Ciro's Pomodoro2I've heard some pretty terrible things about this place and was not even going to bother with a visit. But the Nali mall's outside seating area is wonderful on a summers morning and there weren't tables available in other restaurants, so we thought why the hell not.
The food isn't as terrible as most people say, but it is definitely not restaurant standard. Its the type of food that if your date cooked a home meal for you you'd scoff down and say its delicious (unless you'd been together for more than a year and can be honest and still get laid).
The thing that makes this place so terrible is the complete lack of attention to detail. Small things that really make a dinning experience are just totally disregarded. The staff are eager to get you inside put you in your seat, make your order quickly and then seem to vanish, it is a major pain in the ass to get a class of water or napkin, the food presentation is similar, looks like care was taken when preparation started and then the "chef" god distracted and did something else. Also put the word chef in quotation marks because when this dirty looking dude with a hippy's ponytail left over from the 60's walked through the restaurant my girlfriend was unimpressed by the clientele, imagine her surprise when we found out he was the chef.

Only If You Really Have 2
Reviewed on Jul 20, 2010 7:40am by ThumpReview of Ciro's Pomodoro1Ended up here by mistake but we were tired, hungry and needed a drink after a long day of appointments. We were seated outside until a bunch of beggars waved their plastic cups in our face. But we hadn’t been served yet so it seemed a good reason to leave and find somewhere to get served.
We ended up walking out what we thought was the entrance but it lead us into an open courtyard where there were many tables , some plants and seemed a good place to relocate as there were no beggars in sight.
Little did we know this was just part of the same place !The service was terrible and we could not find a smiling face amongst them. Pizzas’ were raw underneath, chips greasy and soggy with oil,and for RMB60 a rip-off.
The Beer wasn’t even cold - but you know what its like when you are tired and hungry. So we ate the Pizza's.
It’s a dump really, only way anyone would go back there is if they liked cold soggy chips I suppose and had more money than brains. As for the management – there seemed to be a strange looking person hanging around the cash-desk obviously watching his pennies go into the till…..pity the management didn’t worry about their customers and what was getting dumped in front of them
Don’t use the toilets here either.

Minimum charge???
Reviewed on Jul 19, 2010 4:59pm by fabulousBJ5Review of Ciro's Pomodoro2We were in the Nali Patio quite late one evening and just wanted some drinks before we ended the night. There were some empty tables outside and we thought since it was going to be quick, let's just grab a table outside. But no, we were told that minimum spending for a table was RMB 180. If there were 4 or 5 of us, that would be fine but it was just me and friend. I guess next time we can only sit outside if we plan on having dinner which of course would run over RMB 180 quite (unless they up the minimum charge to RMB 500 during dinner time).

Good Italian but High Prices
Reviewed on Jul 19, 2010 4:56pm by missprintedReview of Ciro's Pomodoro3This restaurant has nice decor and the nice outdoor patio for summer dining al fresco. The food was actually pretty good (at least compared to American-Italian food. Not sure how authentic Italian-Italian it is), but I think it was a bit overpriced for what it was. The portions were kind of small, and the beer was too expensive. Service was actually not too bad; our waiter was pretty attentive, which is sometimes hard to come by in Beijing.

Overpriced Pasta and Caesar Salad Gone Very Wrong
Reviewed on Jul 19, 2010 2:41am by rees_priceReview of Ciro's Pomodoro2The thought of mid-priced cheese and spinach filled pasta was too tempting to pass up. However, I expected a bit more for my RMB than a mere 5-6 pasta parcels. (But they were quite tasty, and for this reason alone I will give Ciro's 2 stars.)
Everything else about this restaurant is, however, mediocre at best and overpriced to boot. I ordered a small Caesar salad to accompany my tiny dish of pasta, and found that it had been drowned in an overly-fishy dressing. Horrid! I was quite glad not to have ordered the larger version.

I don't like this place
Reviewed on Jun 14, 2010 11:34pm by piReview of Ciro's Pomodoro1I'm adding this restaurant to the long list of foreign restaurants I don't like in Beijing.
Had pizza. It was a Monday, so they have a 2-for-1 promotion, but when the bill came they conveniently 'forgot' about the promotion and tried to charge us for 2 pizzas.
The pizzas are 70 to 100 kuai, but probably not even as good as Annie's pizza at half the price.
Everything on the menu is ridiculously overpriced (like 70 kuai for a salad, which i'm sure is nothing special if the mediocre pizza is any indication). Or "Pizze" as it's spelled on their menu which also contains disturbing photos of some greasy character with celebrities. Puke.
They have outdoor seating, but you'll pay a lot for mediocre food.

Clueless Beyond Repair
Reviewed on Jun 2, 2010 10:59pm by beautifulmachineReview of Ciro's Pomodoro1We saw on the Beijinger about their Wednesdays Happy Hour so we went. Staff had no idea it was Happy Hour at the time we got there. Said no to us but my friend insisted she saw it was listed in the events category here. Waiter went to "consult" management and then came back to tell us that apart from beers and red wine, the rest of the drinks are 2 for 1. We were like WTF? What's the point of happy hour if beers are not part of the deal??? But I had already sat down and was too lazy to walk over to another restaurant. So, we ordered cocktails and soft drinks. Waiter now got even more specific saying that we could only order two similar cocktails if we wanted the happy hour price (unlike other places which allow different cocktails as long as the higher priced one is paid for).
When we got the bill, the total did not reflect the happy hour price. So, friend spoke to waiter. Waiter again appeared clueless and asked where we got the information from (from the other waiter, duh!). And after sorting it out with their cashier, the correct bill finally arrived.
Clueless clueless clueless. We now suspect they only offer the 2 for 1 deal if customers mention it. It's almost like mention an important person's name and you get 50% off.
Definitely not going back again.
