Daylight Donuts

This Oklahoma donut joint is certainly a solution for those sugar cravings. With jam and cream filled donuts on hand in addition to choices of chocolate, strawberry or banana icing, sprinkles and long johns the company promises to be “always fresh.” At RMB 6 for the basic sugar glazed to RMB 9 for fancier donuts, it’s a great and affordable slice of Americana.

Real donuts!

This place is super exciting: real donuts (they boast their mixes are imported from the US) with authentic frosting. Way better than Krispy Kreme donuts, and a lot more selection (glazed, eclairs, chocolate, jelly-filled, etc.). 6rmb each: but they're worth it. The only downfalls are that there isn't much else appealing there (drinks are comparatively expensive) and that you should get there early (as others have mentioned in previous reviews) because they do not restock their selection during the day. But definitely worth checking out before about noon.

Good donuts, location information needs updating

Went here tonight and found the donuts to be as good as advertised. There were two things to watch out for though. I went around 9:30pm and most of the donuts were gone with only some basic varieties available. The second is the location information and phone numbers listed are wrong. I went to the Hualian mall (Ucenter) at Wudaokou but found there is no store there. I called the Weigongcun location and they said the shop is at Linye Daxue. Didn't find anything there so I decided to give up and go to Weigongcun. I asked the lady there and she said there are only two stores in Beijing right now. They are:

Beijing Flagship Location (Weigongcun)

Other than that, I'd recommend it for all of your donut cravings.

Avoid greasy youtiao and lukewarm soy milk from street vendors, eat Daylight Donuts

What could be a more ideal breakfast than three to six donuts and several mugs of black coffee? Daylight Donuts has made it possible for me to enjoy this great start to the day. Before Daylight Donuts came to Beijing, it was either make your own donuts at home from scratch (huge mess involved) or eat some nasty, gross, oily youtiao from a waidi street vendor, maybe with a side of cat meat sandwich. Of course, chug all that local tasty goodness down with a warm, rancid soy milk. Yuk. Donuts are so much better.

The only negative thing I would have to say about this place is that it's not close enough to my pad! If they were right nearby, I'd probably get breakfast here three times a week and have a super-sized gut by now.

My favorite donut here is the chocolate donut with chocolate frosting. The original glazed were pretty decent too. The jelly donut reminded me somewhat of a Dunkin' Donuts jelly donut, but it tasted a little more nutritious.

Prices are steeper than I'd expect, I recall that it's around 6 kuai per donut, but you're paying for quality. This is not your Wal-Mart Chinese style donut that tastes like cardboard with some sugar on top – it's an actual, American-style, delicious donut. You get what you pay for.

Daylight even delivers donuts by the dozen to nearby locations, in the event you're ordering for your office's weekly "donut day". They had complimentary Wi-Fi access last time I was there.

The menu has been Chinese-ized to include some stir fry dishes and soups, nothing remotely close to their core specialty of donuts. I've not been tempted to try the non-donut items, but my advice is to stick to the donuts and coffee. Delicious, authentic, and a relaxed, laid back breakfast atmosphere.

After years of having to close my eyes and pretend I was eating a donut when I would go to a Chinese bakery and get a donut-resembling pastry, the time has come. Daylight has become a salvation for morning dietary needs in the increasingly multicultural Beijing. The locals are slowly appreciating it as well, although cautious of its waistline effects. Whenever I can, I bring a box of donuts to the office, they are sure to be gone in a few minutes. Daylight also has the right recipe, making donuts sweet and oh so melting in my mouth, and with a variety of toppings, as well as having the classic donut holes. It's definitely one of the greatest American cultural exports!

finally, a donut store in Beijing, with reasonable price too! Been only to the Xidan branch, but unfortunately the place is too small, too open and kinda noisy.
