Good dentist!
Joinway is a great clinic with good prices, a friendly atmosphere and most importantly good results. A lot of people (expats included) save their dental needs until the last minute when the real pain starts to kick in. With that in mind, a dentist will always be your best friend or your worst nightmare! I visited joinway about 6 months ago after neglecting a mild tooth ache that got worse and worse. The excruciating tooth ache that accumulated was resolved with a delicate crown fitting from joinway which was done proficiently and, under the circumstances, painlessly.
I can certainly recommend joinway dental clinic. Better advice would be to go there sooner rather than later. Nobody likes to have dental problems, particularly when you're in a foreign country, but this place (from my experience) will put you on the right track.

Good dentist
I've been checking in with Joinway ever since I came to Beijing. They offer good pricing, skilled dentists and thorough care for the patients.
I've had a root canal done and a wisdom tooth pulled. Both went well, the service and the operations went fast and with very little pain, especially the wisdom tooth pull was done before I could prepare my mind for it. I have been to hospitals and other clinics such as Jiamei trying to find better pricing but never did.
They are usually quite busy and you would need to call in for reservations.

Join? No way.
I'm giving Joinway one star as things may have possibly changed at the clinic. However, if you're looking for a dental clinic that gives good LONG TERM service, I absolutely do not recommend this place, or at least Jane Zhang who was my dentist at Joinway.
I went to Joinway about a year ago to get a check up, knowing that I definitely needed some fillings doing.
Long story short....The service was friendly, I had a bit of a wait even though I had an appointment, Jane was confident, it was clean, I had some fillings done, no injections so the odd nerve was hit, job done, all seemed fine..
Overall the experience was ok but for the price I decided not to go back or recommend Joinway to anyone.
Anyway, 8 months later a small part/chip of one of the fillings came out. Being busy and a little anxious about dentists etc etc, I haven't seen a dentist till now. My fault for not seeing someone sooner, the dentists fault for a rubbish filling.
It's just over a year since my joinway experience and I'm furious. Overall my teeth have always been generally healthy and I've never had braces or anything. Basically, TWO of the fillings Jane gave me were terrible. She didn't drill/clean out the cavities properly when she filled them and now I have to have them completely done again as it's made them even worse. I may now have to have a root canal or a cap on one.
On a final note. I've just read an interview in Agenda magazine with Dentist Zhang and I agree with a lot of things she says. It's just a shame she doesn't apply them in her own practice.
"My first suggestion would be to go to a dentist that your friend had recommended" - Well I might not be your friend, but I'm happy to be. I seriously cannot recommend Joinway.

Excellent dental service
Excellent dental service and reasonable price! This is my first experience to see a dentist. After giving me a careful check, Jane pull out a bad wisdom tooth, which is black and I never expected that easy and quick to get this surgery done. Thank God I came to Jane!

My trusted private clinic....
I have lost my filling so I discussed with my Russians countrymades. They recommended the Joinway. The first impression was very good. The ladies were very nice, English was really ok. And the prices are really much better than their of other clinics in Beijing, also in Russia. The treatment was gentle, communication was very good, I was really feeling like in my private clinic.

For me: Joinway's Tops for Professional Dentistry at Competitive Prices (and the Dentist Is Cute)
I have been a satisfied patient of Joinway Dental Clinic for over three years. After being unimpressed with other local dentists, I stumbled on to Joinway and am so happy that I did.
I have read the positive and negative comments here, and of course reasonable minds can differ, and service quality in a small business can sometimes be uneven, but I have to say that I myself have never had a bad experience at Joinway, other than being inconvenienced by the recent remodeling. I was in for a filling today and I have to say that now that the office is more state-of-the art and more comfortable than before. It's highest dental standard business as usual.
What I like about Joinway and its dentist, Jane Zhang, is that while the dental care is excellent, the atmosphere and ambiance are calm and comfortable down to a welcoming cup of tea or coffee on arrival. I don't know anyone who likes going to the dentist, the same way I don't know anyone who likes paying taxes. Joinway, however, minimizes the pain and makes the ordeal tolerable. And as an added plus, Joinway's rates are more than competitive.

Joinway Dental, Professional and experienced
16th March, a bad day for me, as my baby was due in May and I had dislocated my jaw the previous evening because I ate too many nuts. I was in pain, I could not eat anything hard or even open my mouth to chew things. Although the pain was bad, I was more worried for my yet-to-be born baby because I could only eat a liquid diet. So, my family took me to Beida Dental, their experts said they could do nothing as my baby was due in May and they thought treatment would cause trouble to my baby during treatment, so they suggested I come back to them after I give birth.
I didn’t care what could happen to myself, but I was definitely concerned for my baby. Luckily a friend of mine was a Joinway’s patient and she recommended Joinway Dental to me. Ms Zhang is the owner of JoinWay Dental, she has been a dentist for more than 15 years and is very experienced with difficult situations. Because of the recommendation, I went to Ms Zhang’s office and, after a short talk, Ms Zhang started to adjust the angle of my jaw, while she talked to me …magically I heard and felt a small sound from my mouth and I knew my jaw had been put back into the right place. Ms Zhang told me that I need to let it adapt for two weeks and so, after two treatments at Joinway Dental, I now have my jaw working properly again.
When people ask me why I chose Joinway dental to fix my jaw, I tell them it is because of their rich knowledge and experience as well as their professionalism.

Why I went here then left
I had a mild toothache I wanted checked for cavities, followed by a routine teeth cleaning. I didn't see good reviews for this place, but I thought that since I spoke Chinese, and it was cheaper than IDC Dental, it would be worth it to come for a simple tooth cleaning.
I arrived in the Dongzhimen area fifteen minutes before my appointment. I didn't know where exactly to find their office, so I called their number for directions. Neither the "English" service number nor their regular office number picked up, after numerous calls I had a stroke of luck and managed to find the building by myself.
I arrived a few minutes late for my appointment, but another patient was in so I waited. After a half an hour of waiting, the dentist arrives to tell me that the patient she's looking at has some complications and will take a while. She asks if I can wait another half an hour.
They could have told me this when I arrived at the office half an hour ago, giving me the chance to leave earlier if I wanted to. Or even better, called me on my cell number before my scheduled appointment, tell me the dentist is running late and if I wanted to reschedule. But now that I waited for a half an hour already, I felt stuck. If I rescheduled for another appointment, I will still have to spend an hour total on the trip to and from the clinic. So I told her I'd wait.
I waited exactly 35 minutes before I walked out of their clinic without a word.
After I had gotten home, I get a call from their office. They asked me where I was, and that the previous patient was finished and I could have my appointment. It was already 12:12pm, I scheduled for an appointment at 10:30am. I told her I was at home, and no I will not be rescheduling any appointments with them.
A part of me wanted to tell the receptionist she should start looking for another job.
I'm sure their dental care is fine, but as a business they also need to provide solid customer service (aka, patient care). That I felt my time was being wasted and they didn't seem to care much at all convinced me to never come back again. Next time I'm seeing IDC Dental. I know their prices are higher, but the quality service I hear others raving about there sounds worth it.

construction work going on: dust everywhere, very unhygienic
I had a pretty bad tooth ache and made an appointment there for the next morning already. They wanted me to be there at 9am, but even though I was stuck in traffic and arrived at 9.20am, there was no one there/it was closed, the staff just arrived a few minutes after me.
When I stepped into the clinic I couldn't believe my eyes. The whole place is under construction, and of course I know that when you renovate something there'll always be dust, BUT this is a medical institute, it's just not acceptable that everything is dusty, dirty and in a big mess. After I saw that horrible condition (and espec. when I saw that the assistants took their white medical uniform (however that is called) out of a bag just lying around and the uniforms were rather dirty and very dusty too, I just left - even though I had a really bad tooth ache - but it just seemed like a very unhygienic place. In addition, they told me that the doctor (who asked me to be there at 9am) will only arrive a bit before 10. So I found it quite rude to ask me to be there at 9pm when the doctor only arrives at 10am anyway.
I cannot say anything about how it looks when there's no renovation work going on plus I have not seen the treatment room itself, but the main room and the kind of "lab" where they store their materials and obviously prepare it, but a thick dust layer EVERYWHERE on the floor plus dust particles everything in the air (that made me cough a lot), that's just not acceptable.
So if hygiene is important for you when you go to the dentist (well, it should be the most important thing in my eyes), then I can only recommend everyone: don't go there - at least not untill the renovation work is finished.

English doesn't mean good communication.
Just went to Joinway Dental Clinic. They do have English and Chinese services and compared to what other western dentists have quoted, their prices are not bad. 160RMB for cleaning, 120 for polishing, etc.
However, I will most likely not return. In my experience, most dentists do a decent job. The difference between the average dentist and a great one is trust built through communication. After a couple of visits, Joinway Dental failed to gain my trust. While the dentist practiced decent hygiene and spoke English, the assistants failed to change gloves after handling non-sterile items and the communication between patient and dentist was not great. i.e. One shouldn't ask a patient who can't speak to answer a "A" or "B" question. OR One shouldn't brush aside a patient's concern repeatedly, making the patient feel like he/she is not being listened to.
Still, if you're in a hurry, want English service, and don't know where to turn, Joinway Dental seems to be ready to take new patients.
