Lucky Man First time I went, I was impressed by the whiskey selection and the fact that nobody seems to know about this place. Returned again to try the food and was impressed again. On the second visit, I noticed the whiskey selection isn't all that large, but they have a strong collection of Islay whiskeys (Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bowmore etc) - and if you're going to concentrate on one type of whiskey, it should be Islay.
Anyway, we ordered a couple of whiskeys, some buttered chicken, mackerel and a mixed vegetable dish. The waiter brings a small charcoal grill out and barbecues the chicken and vegetables in front of you as you drink, so you've got the feel of a bar combined with Korean barbecue restaurant, and the cooking's all done for you - close to perfect.
The food was good, though the portions aren't massive (dishes are mostly either RMB 30 or RMB 50). What sealed it for me was discovering that the barbecue flavors go really well with a glass of whiskey - I'd never have thought of whiskey as something you'd drink with food, so a bit of a revelation. The whiskeys are priced a little steeply, starting from around RMB 80 for a 10 or 12 year old malt, but this isn't the kind of place you're going to go to every night. Great for an occasional treat - and a change from yangrou chuanr and Yanjing.
