Luga's Villa
Luga's second venue uses the same formula as its progenitor up the street and takes it bigger. Much bigger. The space contains a stage for live music, a dance floor and a pool table. There is also seating enough to enjoy the cheap drinks and Mexican food (ranging from enchiladas and burritos, to fajitas, nachos and more). Good range of beers (including the newly added Erdinger) and weekly specials (15% off wines on Mondays). Set lunches available Mon-Fri. Daily happy hour 11am-8pm. Voted "Outstanding Mexican" in the Beijinger's 2010 Reader Restaurant Awards.

Lame
Luga's villa has a great balcony and the free pool and darts really attract the lads to this place. I've been here way too many times considering I don't even like the place. Maybe its because I'm terrible at pool, but I'm always asking my mates to move on to a new bar. The drinks are questionable and cost too much for the type of place Luga's is, ditto with the food. Prices have been steadily going up and are almost level with places like Blue Frog and Union, even though the quality lacks miles behind. They serve Beijing draft, which is never that cold, I'd prefer a cold Qingdao any day. Sport on their TV rarely has commentary too.
Could be great but misses on so many things!

luga's
it was a great place to watch the world cup. But other than that the food doesn't do it for me. drinks are not the best unless you're drinking beer and I can't imagine how you would f*** up beer. more of a guy's hangout place I think.

Used to be a decent place now crowded and under surveillance
Cheap drinks with card playing
poker chips flew across the table gaily

Fake Mexican Food
Absolutely probably the worst mexican food in the world. Lame Burritos, substandard tacos, prob good only if you are smashed.

I went to a small version that was more of a cafe. It was across from white rabbit and bita pita close to the larger Luga Villa
Sorry, I forgot the name but it's owned and managed by the same folks from Luga's. The sign even has Luga's name on it. Anyway it serves most everything that you can find in in the Vietnam streets but nicer. Fresh baguettes, spring rolls and Pho (fresh, colorful veggies!)
I usually go to bita pita but this place offers the same fresh foods with a better location for people watching. I had a banana smoothy too. They have other flavors. Whatever is in season

Ladys night? more like trolops and Poison.
Well Well Well this is fun isnt it.
Lugas Villa.(Thats supposed to be the classy bit I think)
Food: Nice-ish
Drinks: poison!!!!! in fact on ladys night (having testicles means things are more expensive and yet women still complain about us getting pay gap!!!) the staff assumed that customers would not notice the turn from very average cocktails to pure poison crap fake alchohol.
Yes Sanlitun is known for this but that is not the point. the point is that somebody
is going to die from drinking this stuff. On a moral ground how could you sleep knowing that this is what you are selling to young women. But i guess thats the point too, you have no morals. You Have no Class. you have no Honour and no respect. You care about Quick money and are too stupid to realise that slow money makes more money and lasts longer.
The bartender realising his mistake promptly poured me another ......From a jug. and seemed somewhat amused by my asking that he make the cocktail im not getting for free from scratch.
What a hole.
The Wait staff were nice.
the DJ???? Well I dont want to hurt the boys feelings so i will simply say im probably a bit out of touch with that sort of style so it wasnt really my thing.
All in all though the young crowd seem to like it and i guess thats what its for though I dont blame them for bringing their own booze in on the sneak.
I say Rip him off Kids. Its only what is being done to you.

Editor's Note: The management of Luga's Villa has contacted the Beijinger and stated that fake alcohol is never served in this establishment.

Good to chill out but food just not good
Its good to chill out and chat or watch a game or two as the place is spacious and getting out from there you can hit the sanlitun street for more options.
But the drinks now are more expensive.
The food was never so good.
We dont frequent this place much now.

Be prepared to get more than what you order...
And not in a good way! I went out with several friends for a few drinks and dinner and we decided to start our night with a round of nachos and beer(best way to start any night). We ordered happy hour specials from the menu and were surprised when our waitress brought out a fifth drink for the four of us. We told her we hadn't ordered the fifth but she was insistent that she had heard us say we wanted it (we all were having beers) and refused to take it off of our ticket. Not only that but it was one of the more expensive drinks on the menu. After our inquiry there was mysteriously no manager to be found.
On another occasion in which I foolishly decided to go back, my overpriced "margarita" was nothing more than some blended ice chips with lime and silly straw. I know this is a common practice in Beijing but when it's followed by unremarkable food, it's not worth the frustration or money. Luga's is passable for Mexican, at least for anyone who salivates at the thought of Taco Bell, but it's no more special than that. Service at this Luga's and the Thai one upstairs has been notoriously bad with disappointing food to follow it up. If you're looking for really good Mexican food in Beijing with valuable drinks (the ones that you DO order) that aren't watered down, I suggest Peter's or Amigos. But don't settle for Luga's like I did, you'll be disappointed.

best Mexican - for what that's worth
Of all the restaurant genres in Beijing, "Central and South American" must be one of the most direly represented. There's little beyond mediocre "Mexican" restaurants, some of which barely offer anything except burritos - not necessarily good ones.
There are some good restaurants among the higher-end, but they often feel more broadly "Western" than anything else - do they offer much that is distinctively Central or South American? I'm not an expert on these types of food, but seems to me the answer is no.
In a broadly undistinguished field, Luga's Villa is always a fun place to go for burritos, enchiladas and fajitas with a few pints. There's more choice than at some of the other Mexican restaurants, and portions are pretty generous, sided by rice, refried beans etc. It's not cheap as such, but better value than certain other Mexican restaurants.
On top of that, the staff are friendly, not least Luga himself, who greets every customer like a family member and is often around making sure things are working well, often while simultaneously hustling the pool table.
It's more a bar than a restaurant, but I'd rate Luga's Villa as the best Beijing has at the moment for "Mexican" eating. Go easy on those frozen margaritas - more than one and you'll need help getting home.

Luga's
Between the laowais rocking out Plastered Tees, to the Journey blaring out of the speakers, this place has a great vibe for the younger crowd.
I typically don't like to go out on Sunday nights, but against my better judgment I went out last weekend. Started the night off with a 35RMB beef burrito from Luga One. Even though Luga is a former Richshaw/Saddle worker, his burritos just don't compare to either of his former employers. I wasn't impressed with the almost complete lack of cheese, but the spices they did use were above average.
I did the typical bar hopping through the area before I ended the night at the new location of Luga's. This was my first visit here, and I was thoroughly impressed. I'm a Kentuckian, so seeing the old school Jim Beam dartboard brought a small tear to my eye. It's not too often you see retro bourbon memorabilia around town.
We started by ordering a fishbowl (forget the actual term) of Long Island Ice tea. It was fairly priced, mixed properly, and most importantly, packed with a large amount delicious alcohol. We were quickly offered free nachos with salsa and guacamole, which we readily accepted. You could easily tell they were all hand made, it added a nice touch to an already fine hangout. We proceeded to order a few rounds of Beijing Draught for a measly 20rmb for a .5L.
I have heard mixed reviews of Luga's. I can assure you, that after having drank and talked with the man himself, I will for sure be back.

Don't expect to get what you order.
Well I have to write a response to suzieq's response to my response. How can you give 5 stars to a restaurant that doesn't bring you the food that you are paying for?
If I order a quesadilla and get some hot pockets....if I order ONE burrito but get FIVE enchiladas...this isn't good business.
If you go to a steakhouse and order a fillet mignon, but get a cheeseburger, would you write a review saying "well you can't get what you ordered, but it's yummy anyways! 5 Stars!"
The original Lugas has great food, and their burritos are big fat burritos, and the quesadillas are delicious quesadillas. I don't know WTF he's doing at his village except causing confusion, and disappointment.

best mexican food in beijing
I have to write in response to tefl-dan's review. I think that Luga's Villa has the best Mexican food in Beijing. While it's true that their quesadillas leave a lot to be desired, their list of delicious food is long. My favorite dish is chicken enchiladas. From what I've tried, I can also highly recommend: flautas, burritos, enchiladas, the mole, and nachos. Their salsa and chips, which come free with every meal, are excellent, as is the guacamole. Their margaritas, while expensive, are also really strong (think carefully before you order your second one). The staff has always been very friendly, even when I'm there at 3 in the afternoon, a time that often makes Chinese waiters roll their eyes and treat me like I'm a freak for eating so late/early. The waiters also speak good English, and the menu has great English descriptions. In the evening it's a really fun atmosphere, with good food and sports on the TVs and a pool table. The manager, a guy from the U.S. (Georgia), is friendly and was more than willing to accomodate us when I went with a large party. Luga's Villa is my favorite restaurant in Sanlitun, and my favorite Mexican place in Beijing.

The burritos that are enchiladas
It's true that the "burrito" comes in the form of several enchiladas. But no complaints from me because they are mighty tasty and well put together. Luga's Villa is a great place for Mexican food, or for just hanging out and playing a game of pool over a few beers.

A Burrito That Wasn't
I've been to the smaller Lugas several times because the burritos and quesadillas were outstanding.
After finishing the great burrito there last night I noticed the daily specials at Luga's Village. It said the next night's special was wings. I've been crazing good wings for awhile, and I hadn't been to Lugas Village yet, so I decided to head over and pay normal price to try them out...
The place is nice and open with pool tables, small area for lice music, nice booths.
I can't seem to find wings on the menu, I asked the waitress and she says they don't sell wings. I pointed to their daily specials poster which says they're the Wednesday special. She goes to check and says they are ONLY sold one Wednesdays...*confusion*. How can there be a special price day for wings, when that's the only price....anyways...
Have to order something else. The quesadillas are a good standbye...however instead of a typical cheese filled pizza shaped quesadilla, I get 3 'hot pocket' looking things....ok. Tastes ok, but not expected.
My Korean friend shows up and orders a burrito...however, 5 small enchiladas arrive...more confusion. It's not what he expected either. He tries to explain what a burrito looks like to the the waiter. No luck. We call Luga over and he explains he is trying to make things different than his other restaurant....
OK, good idea....but if I order a cheeseburger, and I get fish n chips, I'm not going to be happy.
In summary:
-Tried to order hot wings at normal price, but can only buy at "special price" on Wednesdays.
-Ordered standard burrito, but received 5 small enchiladas. They say "is a burrito!"
-They're quesadillas look like hot pockets or mini calzones.
I was thinking about ordering tequila shots, but I think they were 30-35rmb each.
The only redeeming think about the evening was the Long Island Iced Teas were Tuesday night's special at 30rmb.

Luga's Villa
Real Mexican food and great drinks. Did I say great food and great drinks. Yes, I did; on top of the great food and good margaritas, the service is something to talk about as well, you really get good service, something you do not see in most eating establishments in Beijing. Great owner with a smile and new manager with a southern accent.
What a good combination.

Good Mexican food and Drinks At Luga's Villa
My husband and I go here often for great food, even greater service and great drinks at reasonable prices. Especially for Expat food. Last time we went we had the Carna Asado and Chicken Fajitas. Very good.. Free Chips and Salsa, Happy hour till 9 right now, not to mention there drinks are made well. Did I mention very reasonable prices especially for how much you get. I'm sorry for repeating, definately well worth it. I have been to many Mexican Places here and only one is comparable but a little too expensive. Its as close as your going to get to back home as far as I have found. And that does not happen often for me. Plus the owner, Luga makes you feel at home, with a warm smile and great hand shake to welcome you. Most of the servers speak english and Menu is in both.
