My Humble House 寒舍
This upscale art piece of a restaurant opened by a group of Singaporean investors is anything but humble. My Humble House claims it serves the biggest abalone you’ll find in town, alongside such made-to-impress dishes as tiger prawns the size of small lobsters, hongshao rou (Mao’s favorite dish, so we’re told) and a gargantuan dessert platter featuring mango, kiwi and coconut puree, fresh fruit and the requisite dried ice for effect. The restaurant demonstrates a “dining as art” approach, with poetically named dishes and carefully sculpted presentation. The self conscious decor includes a bamboo grove and reflective pool covered in rose petals - however the overall effect is somewhat diminished by the staid office park surroundings of Oriental Plaza. Predictably, this luxury doesn’t come cheap, so have a credit card ready. Reservations are recommended.
