Plastered T-shirts

Plastered’s designers discover the diversity and beauty of Beijing’s everyday life and turn it into graphic design with ironic effect. You’ll find T-shirts resembling a subway ticket, the old 1.20 Xiali taxi rate sticker, labels from bottles of “Er Guo Tou” and Yanjing beers of 38 different designs. Men and women’s T-shirts are all available in different sizes. Price ranges from RMB 68-88. Plastered also features a selection of old-fashioned tin toys.

I first heard about Plastered T-shirts when the founder Dominic came to the TEDx in Beijing and told the story of coming to China and starting a shop, involving the local community.

With the story in mind i went to Nanluguoxiang and checked out the shop. I loved the quaint decorations in the shop, the sweet older Chinese woman who manned the till and were ready to help to find the right size of the shirts and talk a little bit about the different designs taken from such odd places as the old Beijing subway ticket stubs etc.

Excellent place to buy small unique decorations for the apartment and excellent t shirts. Bravo!

Best of the Bunch

Plastered started the trend of t-shirt shops on Nanluoguxiang and remains the trend leader. Now there's a plethora of shops on the street but Plastered is the only one that strikes me as truly memorable. More importantly, their shirts are the only ones that come close to capturing the spirit of Beijing; others seem to be trying too hard to commemorate the city with a flashy style that is distinctly un-Beijing.
