On February 19, 2011, the Beijinger listed an event for this club with DJ Yao. The listing on the Beijinger and other websites said that the event would be free, specifically stating that there would be NO cover charge.

However, when my friends and I got there they announced a 50 kuai cover charge at the door.

Punk looked like a pretty good place and the music sounded good from the outside, but there weren't too many people in the club. My bet is that a bunch of people got mad that they had falsely advertised the event as having no cover charge, only to surprise people at the door.

Bottom line: You don't charge cover when you say in advertisements that there's no cover, and especially when there's little to no people inside.

I'll delete this review or change my rating if a) I get an official apology and explanation as to the discrepancy in advertising and the cover charge that was surprisingly assessed at the door or b) If I ever somehow go back and like the place.

You disappointed alot of people Punk; this bad taste in my mouth probably isn't unique to just me tonight. Please realize that such practices hurt your reputation and your business, and may have even permanently lost you some patrons.

Punk is a bumping little space in the basement of the hip, stylish, upscale opposite house, complete with one of the best toilets in town. All pretty standard fare for this city. Where it really stands out from the crowd is with the in-house DJs like Saul bring the mash-up style of music that mixes anything from old-school hip hip, to electro house, to 80s indie hits. Constantly switching tracks and genres to keep you on your toes. Drinks are up to par for your standard upscale joints at around 50kuai for a cocktail, but they're always 2-for-1 before midnite on fridays, and they never charge cover even when big name DJs like A-Trak, Craze, Stretch Armstrong and others swing through. Oh and did I mention the host of fine looking ladies that frequent the joint? All the above makes it a pretty popular spot, either for swinging through to get pre-drinks, or to stay out the whole night and bring it on the dancefloor.

Been there recently for a networking event. Apart from the fact that the whole Opposite House is far too pretentious comparing to what is offering, this bar makes no sense at all! Located in the basement of the Opposite House, lacks completely in comfort and in space. The barmen don't know what they are doing and it seems that their cocktail's knowledge is very limited!

Definitely a no go....
