Q Bar

One of Beijing's most popular cocktail bars, Q Bar is known for its excellent martinis and other skilfully mixed drinks. Prices are fair in comparison with Q Bar's main competitors. With its booths and top-floor views of Sanlitun, the outdoor terrace is a popular summer hangout.

Nice surprise

Qbar surprised me a lot since i finally discovered a "bar"(with the whole meaning of the word)in Beijing! Not a bar-club,not a bar-restaurant(although there are some snacks you can get),not a coffee-bar.I finally found a place where i can have a good drink in a relaxing bar place, not too big,not too classy. It's warm and cozy i can say.The cocktails were really good in reasonable prices.Service usual.Music was pretty good and matched well with the enviroment.
I'm thinking seriously to go again:)

Got more than expected

Me and my german colleague just wanted to get away from the hotel on a sunday night, we googled a few places but choose Q-Bar and we are very glad that we did, after a bit of looking around we found the place on the 6th floor of the Eastern Inn hotel. We were met by smiles and great quality and service. When we was about to leave I wanted to tip but that was almost impossible, all in all a great place with awesome service.

Quality Mixology

Five years later the cocktails here are still legendary.

When I want to go out for a great cocktail and am in the Sanlitun area (sorry Mao Mao Chang) then I generally come here. The happy hours are great although I would hesitate to call them the best in town. As for quality they are hard to beat. The bartenders know what they are talking about and how to create a proper cocktail. I want go so far as to say they are liberal or conservative with their pours because that is not what is important at Q Bar. What is important is the quality of the drinks and ensuring the properness that accompanies the various details of each of their drinks. You should come here and sample a cocktail or spirit that you have never had, this is an ideal place to branch out.

At 50RMB+ for most drinks some consider it overpriced. However, I tend to disagree with those individuals. Sanlitun is getting more expensive with each passing month. Instead of dropping 40RMB on a pint of Stella why not pay a little more and get something that will actually be worth your while to drink.

Booze itself.

Old Fashioned - Made properly, none of the crazy techniques/ingredients that other places tend to add.
Mojito - Tastes like any decent one.
Raspberry Caipirinha - Great choice, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Singapore Sling - Without question the best one in town. It is made the 'proper' way with the correct ingredients - as per the long argued over recipe.
XYZ - Three ingredients is hard to screw up, good though.
Pimms Cup - Like any other, if you want Pimms go to the Saddle for their Pimms Mojito.
Cherry Fizz - A great drink, enjoyed this one a lot but I also love cherry brandy.

Disappointed

Went to Q Bar last night with a few friends. I was trying to show some out-of-towners one of the best outdoor bars in Beijing. But the patio was closed for some unknown reason so we were sitting inside on a sofa. We ordered a round of cocktails, generally the drinks were nothing to write home about and service was slow even there were only a couple of tables at the time. Business picked up around 10:30 while we were into our second round of drinks. Something unthinkable happened - we were served with the bill which we never called for and our glasses were still half full. I asked the waitress why she sent us the bill, her answer was "the bar may be busy later". Excuse me? But we are not done yet! "You can stay longer if you want!" Thanks, but no thanks! Rushing customer is never a practice of a decent bar or restaurant. I am truly disappointed about this place.

Disappointing

If this is the best martini in Beijing, I'm moving to Ulan Bator.

This place was deserted at 9pm on their much lauded martini nights. No mood music. No glamourous crowd. No buzz. We braved the elements outside to try to make the best of the evening. Dead silence except for the freezing crickets.

Then the confusion over our drinks. My client was only interested in having one glass for his night cap. At the door the staff confirmed it was 50% off each drinks. The menu then states that you will have to get the minimun of two glass (for the price of one). Imagine my shock when we were billed twice for a drink we didn't want in the first place. To their credit, their manager resolved the matter to our satisfaction but not before leaving a bad taste that marred our experience.

My client could barely taste the vodka in his martini which was strangely served with olives AND lemon. My Hendricks was weaker than baby formula. I've had far better ones at Blue Frog and Fubar at half the price.

I don't intend to return to be cramped into that smoky dingy bar this winter. Not for these drinks.

good drinks, nice place, bit pricy, but thats normal.

a pity they had to cover the side walls with the red walls..
The view is gone.
But the seatings and the rest is great.

Great rooftop

The rooftop atmosphere of the Q Bar is wonderful. The small, private cottages are cozy, but can get pretty hot in the summer nights. Drinks are generally decent, but stay away from the caipirinhas. Opt for the delicious frozen lychee daiquiri instead!

Great Rooftop Terrace Bar

The first time I went here, I was really thrown off. The bar is located on the 6th or whichever floor of a really random, small hotel. At first I thought I had to be in the wrong place because I'd heard so much about Q Bar, I couldn't believe it could be in such a random location.

The service is OK. I ordered a light dinner and they got my order wrong -- brought me some sort of dessert instead of food, and insisted it was what I'd ordered. Got them to change it finally without too much of a problem though. The food was just OK but that's not what you go there for; you go there for the drinks.

I forget what i ordered, some sort of orange mixed drink, but it was actually very good. They actually use the good thick sugar and you can tell the difference. My friend enjoyed his drinks as well, though good luck finding any mixed drink less than 50 kuai.

The outdoor terrace is the best part. It's huge, with lots of tables, couches, chairs. A great place to go with a sizable group to enjoy the breezes (now if only there were ever a non-polluted air day on which to enjoy it)!

Great environment, especially rooftop terrace

After a long week, several friends and I hit up Q Bar for the first time and came away quite impressed.

With a spacious rooftop area, Q Bar offers a very relaxing and intimate setting. Our group was able to get early enough to secure a nice, cushioned bed area inside one of those boxes outside. Although prices were a little high, service was prompt and friendly.

The only complaint about Q Bar was that one of my friends specifically indicated that he wanted a virgin daiquiri. However, the waiter came back with an alcoholic one, and when we reiterated the fact that he wanted a non-alcoholic, he replied that it was impossible for them to make a virgin daiquiri, which he had not mentioned previously. However, he cordially took the drink back and we were able to order a non-alcoholic piña colada.

Rooftop terrace and martinis

I go here for the rooftop terrace and martinis. The best deal is on Wednesdays when the martinis are half off (note: half off vs buy one get one; i.e. if you are a light-weight like me - thanks "Asian glow" - you can pay 35 kuai for a lychee martini).

Don't bother with the lamb skewers (mint dipping sauce is tasty, but meat was teeny and overcooked). The portion of hummus is skimpy and the quesadillas were quite curious. The chocolate mousse hits the spot, though, so long as you're a fan of a hint of chili in your chocolate (I personally prefer curry chocolate - yeah, weird - but the chili one can do for now).

Beware the enclosed rooms - very very stinky and dirty.

Happy mid-week drinking!

advice!

Drinks are getting worse

People like the roof top of this place, but it has no character, no music, and everyone is in their own box.

Drinks? they were good, but they are getting worse and worse, service is getting worse and worse. I went there with a group of people, when my friend asked for a none-alcoholic fresh fruit daiquris, the bar tender (who has been nominated as one of the best bar tender in Beijing) told us it could not be done. why? I guess it is because they don't use fresh fruit, or they were being typical, meaning always say NO to the change of things.

When one of our drinks which was a beer has never arrive, we were given an answer as: we were busy, we forgot! Will never go back there, because drinks are not good, and too expensive for the quality!

Airy and nice but too dark

The place can be quite nice if you are out sitting in the open space of the bar out.

But if there is no breeze that particular day ,change to the inside place as the airconditioner will take care of summer.

Overall good experience .The foreign manager /waiter was good to understand what we need.

Not a upscale bar though.Just good for catching up with friends.

If you want to impress someone , not this place.

Drinks are good and reasonably priced.

worst mojito

Review of Q Bar

One of the worst mojitos I have ever tried worldwide - felt like a "fake" mojito actually. surprised the place once won the "best mojito place" title - should really see how mojito is done in other places on the globe.

Terrace is quite nice - but there is not really a view.

Its QBar Time!

Is not cold anymore, sand storms, pollen storms and all the possible storms are over. Finally its QBar time, its getting warmer in Beijing, the best moment to take a date into that classic rooftop, a great place to relax, enjoying darkness and good cocktails. Average price as most of the cocktail places in Beijing, but with a terrific atmosphere and music

Definitely Coming Back!

It has this really odd location but such goooood cocktails. Staff were all really really nice. Bartender Wendy offered to custom-mix me and my friend any drink. They have several foreign waiters working there right now too. The crowd seemed pretty cool and the music was good. Can't wait for summer to come so they'll open up the rooftop deck!
