Sunberry Frozen Yogurt For lovers of frozen yoghurt, such as myself, Sunberry Frozen Yoghurt is a delicious and refreshing snack, anytime of the day. Healthier than ice cream (and just as, if not more delicious), frozen yoghurt with its many toppings is an absolute delight no matter when or in what combination it is eaten.
Sunberry, inobtrusively located in the bottom of Zhongguancun's bustling The Gate Shopping Mall, is a real find. With a variety of available toppings, one can mix and match one's own yoghurt and toppings to a perfectly delicious, more or less healthy dessert.
Choices of fruit topping vary by season but have in the past included: strawberries, blueberries, cherries, dragonfruit, mango, pineapple, kiwi and papaya, while the sweet toppings range between m&ms, chocolate pieces, skittles and Pocky chocolate sticks to cereals and the ever-popular Chinese "mixed" red beans.
he consistency of the yoghurt itself has continuously improved since the opening of the store, and is made with 100% real cream. Though sometimes it is not creamy enough, this frozen yoghurt is the best version I have as of yet found in China.
But what is most fascinating about Sunberry Frozen Yoghurt is that it is a real study in copyright breaching! Everything about this cute little fro-yo bar is stolen! From the name, taken from the Tennessee fro-yo chain Sunberry, over to the font and colouring of the logo, taken from the store that made fro-yo popular worldwide, Pinkberry, nothing about Beijing Sunberry Frozen Yoghurt seems original. The only difference between the logo of Pinkberry and Sunberry is that instead of a pink apple-looking fruit, Pinkberry's Beijing admirer chose an unidentified pink swirl instead.
Even the products on offer are almost homogenous - Instead of Pinkberry's fruit parfait, Sunberry offers a special offer (RMB 24) yoghurt-and-three-toppings combination - the picture on display in the store looking uncannily like Pinkberry's.
But fakes and imitations are as common in China as the sickening smell of chou dou'fu wafting down the streets - and as far as the quality is concerned, Sunberry Beijing has done an excellent job.
To Pinkberry - Imitation, at least in this case, really is the sincerest form of flattery.
My Pick: medium sized yoghurt with two portions of chocolate pieces and one of strawberry (RMB 19)
