Sushi Bar 盆赏寿司吧

This Japanese eatery is banking on the the burgeoning Pingod 22 Art Street by catering to busy media professionals, artists and hipsters; and if the quality of the food is any indication, then it's a safe bet. The suprisingly extensive menu offers a range of Japanese standards, including sushi sets (RMB 30 for six rolls), hand rolls (RMB 12-16 for a pair), salmon sashimi (RMB 38) and an excellent range of set lunches (including the generous portioned Oyoko-don, RMB 28, as well as the salmon teppan, RMB 55). The space, suitable to the clientele, elicits a feeling of cozy refinement, with a small sushi counter, paintings of cherry blossoms, Japanese lanterns and mellow French and North American pop music adding atmosphere.

Good Food, good price

One of our friends recommended this restaurant, and we would recommend it to others.
This is not a very large restaurant, so it has more of a feeling of a small cafe. The seats are quite comfortable. The service is not too bad, and the wait staff did not hover at our table when they first give us the menu which was nice when you have a cranky tired baby who gets up upset with strangers.
The food came out quick, and was very tasty. Both my wife and I had pork chop don, which had sauteed mushrooms and onions underneath the pork. The pork it self was perfectly breaded and cooked, making it disappear quickly. The prices are moderate, and the servings were large. We will definitely be going back there.

This place is right by my house, but I wish it were next to my office because of its great lunchtime set meals - generously portioned bento trays with varying entrees (tonkatsu pork, udon noodles, buckwheat soba, etc.) that range from RMB 28-32 each. They've also got the atmospherics down to a T - no annoying Kenny G soundtracks here - the background music is an eclectic mix of Dylan, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Pink Floyd and French pop. This is a great place for a quiet chat or a solo-meal with a magazine.
