TATA

From a distance, you’d be forgiven for thinking Gongti has added to its agglomeration of nightspots, but TATA – with its eye-catching, panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows – is actually a swanky hair and nail salon. The freestanding building was constructed specifically for the salon; everything, from the heating to the water system, was envisioned with pampering in mind. For example, the water is softened to match the pH of hair and the air is kept decidedly moist. Though the environment is sleek, services here run a comfortable range – a cut begins at RMB 80, while a hairstyling by master stylist Martin Harper can cost up to RMB 880. The lower level caters to a younger crowd; the second floor comes equipped with several lavish VIP rooms. Rumors swirl about future promotions involving champagne and manicures – news that ought to excite anyone who longs to get dressed up, well-sloshed and go out clubbing all in one space.

I went to Tata's today to get my first haircut in six months. The environment is very professional, and all the employees are extremely pleasant. The girl who cut my hair did an amazing job, taking what I wanted into consideration and sculpting a cut that works with my face and hair type. I will definitely, definitely go back, much sooner than six months!

The most expensive cut I've ever had

After many average haircuts at local salons, I took the plunge at TATA with one of their top hair "artists" for 880rmb the most I have ever paid for a haircut. It was definitely a more comfortable experience dealing with an English speaking and obviously professional hairdresser who meticulously snipped at my locks.

But was it all worth the price? I like to think not, but I must admit the cut and style (I have short hair) grew out well and lasted a long time. I have since been back to a local salon for another nothing special cut, and now bitten the bullet and will be returning to TATA for a quality cut/fix up.

;)

Great experience!

After hearing and reading about so many Chinese-haircut horror stories, I was pretty scared about my first haircut in BJ. Did my research and chose to head over to Tata - and I am so happy that I did! The staff were fantastic, from the girl at the front desk who helped translate my specific directions, to the assistant who washed my hair, to the hairdresser. All were very talented and super nice. I selected the 120rmb shampoo+cut (had the option between 120 and 280 based on who was available when I walked in, though the full range of prices was 80 to 580 where the upper tier gets you a foreign hairdresser). I am very happy with the final product and would definitely recommend Tata. (And the tea+magazine were a great touch too!)

After reading the Beijinger i decided to get my haircut at TATA.

I came in and made clear i didnt speak chinese ( 2 sec later the owner was there a native english speaker) making it rather easy to explain what i wanted.

I had no idea what the price would be and i could choose between 280 rmb and 120 rmb after explaining what i wanted he was honoust and told me i should take the 120 RMB one ( not overpaying in china OMG).

Hair looks wonderfull and it was the first time my hair felt like silk.

The little thing is during the shampoo there is only a small neckrest which is only a small nuisance and if that was fixed it would have been perfect.

PS: English Magazine and a good drink during the haircut rly enjoyed that one

Very very nice !

I went there on my friend's suggestion and I must say it was a good one. Firstly the man is a native english speaker who aso helped me with the directions when I was lost on my way, but he also translated what I asked for to the stylist who did exactly want I wanted.
The staff is polite and efficient, the place spotless, just what I wanted.
I paid RMB 208 for a men's haircut ( which includes the shampoo and a very decent scalp massage ), which is apparently a little pricey for Beijing but it was such a relief to have someone who actually understood me that it is worth it.
The only negative point is that the hairdresse got a bit overwhelmed when styling my hair ( horrible spikey styling) but he told him not to and it was okay in the end.
I woud definetly recomend this place for someone who doesn't speak mandarin and doesn't want to wear a cap for weeks.

Great atmosphere, great haircut, reasonable price

I was so bummed when my beau won a free gift certificate for a hair treatment in the Beijinger reader survey - I was really, really hoping he'd win the massages, but alas, he won the top prize and since he has relatively little hair, he donated it to my dry and brittle mop.

I decided to make an evening of it and get my hair cut and colored as well. Long story short - I am happy. "A" (I didn't quite get his name, but I think this is it) did a great job coloring my hair, and proactively told me that if the color didn't come out the way I liked it (my hair has seen many colors) I could come back and he'd fix it anytime. It's a touch dark but I'll give it a week, since pre-treated hair tends to fade. Sweet guy, and very gentle. The color cost me RMB 780 for "medium length" hair. They first tried to tell me I had "long hair" but I disagreed and they agreed to medium length hair.

My hair dresser Phillip (a cut wit him runs RMB 180, cheapest one's start at RMB 120) seemed a little stuffy at first, but was quite good, and really understood that fine hair needs special attention. He also joked with me about the fact that I cut my own bangs, which was so much nicer than the scoffing I usually get. He even stayed late to wrap up the job. As I was leaving, the owner of the Salon, KK, who had also stayed late, personally saw me off.

The hair treatment - which has a long Italian name I can't remember and can't look up because their website is inaccessible - was brief and relaxing (ca. 20 minutes, and normally runs RMB 680) and left my hair super soft and shiny. I couldn't stop playing with it.

excellent
