I used to go the brick in 2009, it was then a great bar that I stared 5 stars.
I have been there last Sunday and what a disappointment !

-They don't serve their delicious food anymore, lily burger only ! and still, you have to go by yourself.
-No peanuts anymore
-I have the feeling prices got higher
-Only Chinese waiters, no foreigners
-The place was empty and dead...

I talk to the waiters, they said that last year the owner changed from American to English guy.

Damn another good place that disappeared

They beer was good and the food was better. Will go again.

an ode to Alex “The Terminator” Taylor, quiz master extraordinaire

6 months ago to this very day
t’was the time Mr Taylor last had his way
sick of dry spells and drought, he started to doubt,
if ever again he would get his knob out!

“Wait!” said the brick!
“Don’t retire your d***!”
I have a plan so cunning it would make a fox sick!

Here is my plan, an awesome idea
We’ll have a quiz night, I’ll pay you in beer!

“Free beer you say!” a change of his luck
secretly thinking “ I could get a ..... lady companion

and so it began, the trivia night
and many fine ladies did Alex invite.
It started off well, the girls were impressed
While Alex was thinking he’d get ‘em undressed

But alas, there’s a catch- the curse for free beer!
For when alex is drinking, the ladies steer clear
But don’t get us wrong folks, he sometimes does well,
A number of ladies hath succumb to his spell

But it always comes down to that fatal decision,
“just one more beer, to help my precision”
“shot’s, terminators, PBR, ale, they must be the reason that I always fail?”

the madam was first, but that didn’t work,
she took back her i-phone and called him a jerk!

The Japanese maiden, a sure fire bet,
But failure still to get his d*** wet

Next on the horizon, a mysterious stranger,
Alex went in, heedless of danger
This one he tempted back to his lair,
I’m in! he thought, she’s washing her hair
So exited was he, he howled at the moon,
But lo and behold, she just wanted to spoon ☹

Whether more girls will come has yet to be seen,
But Alex stays patient, in wait of his queen
So if any young beauty would care to assist
come to the brick, put your name on the list!

Although it's not in Sanlitun, this is a great bar. Their happy hour is good, not great. But their prices aren't too high and I like their specialty cocktails. Brick tea is delicious and their Snakebite is my new favorite.

Like everyone else said, it is a neighborhood bar so everyone seems to know everyone. It's not a place to go meet single ladies either but a fun bar to hang out at. This is a good change of pace from the Sanlitun vibe. I love this place. Ryan and Cici are great. Excellent service, excellent drinks (no fake alcohol), and their food is pretty decent. And for chuanr lovers, it's just across the street. And they'll even deliver it to you while you're at the Brick, how great is that?

I agree with all the positive comments mentioned. There are some other things I like about the BRICK.
1) If you come in alone, it's easy to make some new friends to drink/chat with. That makes it a great local.
2) The salsa for the burritos/chips is home-made and is by far better than what you get at the Mexican restaurants in town. (I won't mention names, but at some joints it tastes like it came out of a can lugas.)
3) The beer is COLD.

The Brick is ideal for a neighborhood and that's why I enjoy my time there.
I guess you also want some scathing comments.
Go to the Brick yourself and assess it with your own standards of how a bar should feel, sound, and cost.

A good bar with no pretenses. Just a place to drink and meet interesting people. Its amazing how easy it is to make friends there.
