The Tree 隐蔽的树
This long-running Beijing pub (over eleven years and counting) specializes in Belgian beers and wood oven fired pizzas, as well as some Belgian bar snacks (i.e. biterballen), and sits on prime real estate just off of the main Sanlitun bar strip. Most nights find it packed with a lively, conversant crowd. Go here for one of the largest selection of fine Belgian beers and ales in town. pizza was great, but expensive
I tried four different kinds of pizza here and all were absolutely delicious. The four-cheese was phenomenal, but the others were also stellar. The only problem is that they're awfully expensive for the size that they are. 70 kuai for a fairly small pizza - however delicious - is not great. The service and atmosphere were OK; the food is the highlight of the place, in my opinion. It's a good place for when I have cash to spare, but not really otherwise.

Service issues
We were 3 of us and each ordered a different pizza.
It came at different times, thats still pardonable knowing what happens in most restaurants.
But the attitude of waiters of being indifferent is not acceptable. I asked for water 2 times , free water of course and she almost forgot first time and also the second time ,or is it a policy not to serve the water.
There is no smile on the face , no feeling of the guests are desired and wanted in this establishment.
Yes we come for the food is good and will keep coming till our patience lasts!

Good pizza but don't order anything else, ESPECIALLY THE INCECTS!!!
Pizza was good, as far as Beijing standards go. Was too oily to be "authentic Italian" but this didn't bother me too much as it meant the base was very crispy. The pepperoni was excellent, best I've tasted since I can remember.
That's all the good points!! Service was bad, but that's a given since this is China and I've had worse, oh and the lighting was rubbish but these things can be forgiven. The really BAD thing about this place, and what cannot be forgiven, is the other food!! The garlic bread was like polystyrene, I've had better frozen ones in UK. The beef stew was bitter and so dry the only way it could be eaten was with tomato ketchup and even then I felt it was so disgusting I had to stop eating it so I tried some of the salad it came with. That tasted ok but when an INSECT crawled from under a piece of cucumber and then drown in the dressing I was a bit disgusted. They asked us if we wanted to have a new plate done, but given how awful the stew was anyway we said no. They did not charge us for the 'insect stew', which for China is pretty good going, but it means they do not wash their vegetables and though you can expect this is the case in many places in Beijing that are cheap this place is not.
Bottom line is that if I cannot find a better place to have a pizza I may return but I advise everyone to KEEP AWAY FROM THEIR SALADS AND STEW!!!!!

Sound pizza, but rather expensive
After trying four different kinds of pizza from The Tree this weekend, I personally think they have the best tasting pizza in Beijing. However, the price was not so uplifting. 60-85rmb per pizza isn't bad, but other pizza establishments in the city have a much better price-to-size ratio. Also, the drinks were a bit expensive. Overall, if I had extra money to spend, I would head to The Tree, but most of the time I'll be headed to the other pizza restaurants to get a better deal.

Good pizza, good beer
I've been here a couple of times and have yet to fault the place, the pizza's are yum and there is also a wide selection of beers to choose from, unlike previous reviews I had no problem with the staff or the service in fact I couldn't believe how quick we got our pizza after ordereing it. The only problem I think i'll have in the future it tryin to find the place again!

good food, horrible staff
undeniably the food is good and the price reasonable, but the service has become more and more questionable with my last few visits.
most recently we were sat by the kitchen and saw that EVERYTHING - garlic breads, fries, leftover packing, were handled by hand. at one point fries that fell on the floor were picked up and put back onto the plate by hand, before it was served. maybe it's the same everywhere, but to see how my food was actually handled is enough to stop be from going back.

Dig it!
Good pizza, good drinks, good pub atmosphere, decent (can't quite say good) service, good vibe - a good place all in all! Bit dark and smoky, but that's part of the charm, or at least the look.

Relaxing pizza place
Just had dinner here, have to mention the 4 cheese - wow. Though about doing the same at home... have to get all the 4 kinds! Now only have 2.
It's a great place to get together and grab a bite before hanging around in the bars, can see the young party animals cannot wait to start their night.

Consistant Quality Pizza.
Being a constant client, I've never been disappointed with the great pizza they offer.
One of the best places to eat great pizza.
Imported beers options are quite generous too.
Get so crowded during the weekend, so paying a visit in the middle of the week is more convenient.
Definitively a MUST go place for authentic pizza and beer...

Being ruined by surly and inattentive staff
This place used to be my favourite place in Beijing. Arguably the best Pizza in Beijing (well, I'd actually say that honour is Hutong Pizza's but The Tree is damn good and more convenient for me so mostly I go there), excellent drinks, friendly crowd, even if I'm not with friends I can normally go and prop up the bar and always get talking to someone interesting.
However, it is being ruined by rapidly declining levels of service. The staff generally pay no attention. There are whole corners of the restaurant that they completely ignore. It's not that they're overworked, they just don't seem to bother going anywhere near certain parts of the restaurant even when they're empty. So you have to stand up and walk to find a fuwuyuan or shout at the top of your lungs. That annoys me.
Worst of all, they have a *particularly* obnoxious young waitress now. I have been in there three times in recent weeks and been served by her every time. I swear the only words she has ever said to me have been 'seventy-five' (or whatever my bill has come to). Anyone who goes in there regularly will know the girl I am talking about. She literally drops the plate on your table and approaches every interaction with utter uncommunicative contempt. I would not complain if this had happened once as everyone's entitled to be in a bad mood occassionally, but this is a recurring trend with this particular waitress. And it's not like I've ever given anyone in the restaurant reason to be treated so lousily (I'm not the type to get drunk and insult people in a bar or anything like that). Genuinely lousy service and bad attitude.

Good pizza and the only place for bitterballen in Beijing
We've been to The Tree a couple of times, and we can't complain much. Don't expect a classy atmosphere and good service. Do got there for - comparatively - good pizzas and a wide range of Belgian beers. And not to forget: their Dutch bitterballen (meat snack) with mustard!

Small, but good pizza
Went to this place Saturday night with some friends as we had heard this place had some pretty good pizza. We ordered the artichoke, ham, and olive pizza and also the four cheese pizza. If you're a blue cheese lover like I am, then the four cheese is a great choice. The artichoke, ham, and olive was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The size of the pizzas is a little on the small side, and two pizzas seemed like more of a snack when split between four people. Be warned that there is very very little tomato sauce on the pizzas. I actually prefer my pizza made that way, but some of my friends were not fans of it. Couldn't comment on the beer selection as we just came for the pizza. Also I must add that it was a little uncomfortable eating in at The Tree because it gets very muggy inside, and it doesn't seem like the air conditioners helped at all. It would have been a much better experience if it was a tad cooler.

Place to beer!
The best place to go to if you're looking for some decent Belgium beers. The beer is pricy, most are in the range 40-55 rmb. However the effect of the stronger beers is definitely more significant then drinking Tsingtao for the same amount of money! Try the Maredsous 10°
Personally I wouldn't go there for the food, some people think their pizzas are great. Though in my opinion they are just ok.

The pizzas are good
Whether you drink beer or not ,the pizzas are good.Thats the reason people come here.
Sure ,good beers help .The thin crust ones , you could keep varying the toppings and try different toppings.
The staff understand the quickly though they are chinese (you should know which waitstaff are old staff !).Since we have been going quite regularly we know now.
The french fries are also good. The sides like Garlic bread too is made well.Actually nothing goes too wrong.

Best place in town for beer + pizza combo
i love going to the Tree to get my Maredsous beer and pepperoni pizza! The layout is nice and chill, and the higher prices means that you avoid the noisy expat teenager early twenties crowd that other places get, and your able to sit and enjoy your beer and pizza. The service is attentive and quick. Also a great place to take Chinese people who say they dont like beer and have them try the fruit flavored beers, I assure you they will be fans afterwards :)

I agree, go for the beer
I agree with the previous review; go for the beer. If you're not a beer drinker and simply want pizza, there are tons of options in the area. If you like beer, though, the plus side is that the oven-fired pizzas are ready in an instant, since there are a couple staff members at the oven making pizzas to order non-stop and the dough is so thin.
The Greek salad is large, but there's not much to it.
FYI the fries are thick.

Not so great if you don't like beer
There should really be two categories for this establishment: one for people who like beer, and one for people who don't.
As someone firmly in the latter camp, I'd say this is a place to avoid. There's nothing special about it (if you don't like beer), and the food is overpriced. Also, it's usually painfully crowded.
On the other hand, if you do like beer, then this is (according to my beer-loving friends) just short of paradise. Which probably explains why it's so darn crowded all the time.
