I was always under the impression that this is one of the excellent places for dining.
I came first time and was in for a big surprise.It is indeed similar style chinese restaurant across the street.
In fact these days I am feeling better to eat at smaller places as they care for the customers.
I ordered a steak with few variations than in the menu. The fuyuan listened everything and the order came exactly as per menu after 30 minutes. When I pointed out hey -whats this? The fuyuan had no reason to explain and perhaps had forgotten to inform the kitchen.Said do you like to eat it this way or should I make again .It will take again 30 minutes or more as the restaurant had more customers by then.
I simply ate a few bites without making a scene and left never to return.
Not efficient service.

I really like the food at Union, and prior to tonight, it was one of our favorite restaurants in Beijing. Tonight, however, my wife's phone was stolen off of our table as we ate. I must admit, it must have been quite a skilled thief for neither of us to notice it happen, and we were only there a short time. What's really concerning, though, is that I can't recall anyone ever getting particularly near our table other than the waitstaff, who were numerous and constantly buzzing around (it was Thanksgiving, so a pretty busy night for them).

When we told them the phone was gone, the staff did their best to help us look for it in case she'd dropped it somewhere, but a couple of them seemed more interested in getting her to say she'd lost it outside before we'd entered the restaurant, which wasn't the case. Sure, she probably shouldn't have put it on the table, and we probably should have noticed it getting stolen, but we really didn't expect that sort of thing to be a problem at a place like Union.

Now, was it someone on the staff who stole it? I have no way of knowing, but certainly the thought has occurred to us, and it's sort of ruined the restaurant for us. Like I said, I really liked their food, but it's hard to see us going back now. In any event, to those eating there, be warned that it's apparently not as safe an atmosphere as it seems. Enjoy your meal, but definitely guard your valuables while you're there, or maybe just don't bring them at all.

let’s all march lock step to Union! This restaurant bar is the upscale version of TGIF. While that may sound to be a negative I mean it as praise. I go to Union when I want to have a reliable experience. It’s clean, the staff speak English and Chinese, service is good, and they games are always on one of the many flat screen tvs. Food wise, Union is a bit on the expensive side but I’ve never been dissatisfied with the burger, wings, steak or even the free chips that magically arrive when I order a beer. Union is at its best as a sanity check – when you’ve spent too much time in Chinese restaurants its always nice to get some really good food and service to remind you of what dining out is supposed to be like.

My family and I have just arrived in Beijing two weeks ago and stumbled across Union Bar &Grill. Great atmosphere fantastic staff and the food is good. Andy the manager has been superb, willing to help us settle,tell us where to go, what to download on your phone for help in getting around. Been in now half a dozen times and all the bar staff know our names.
If you are new to Beijing or just want to meet some great people go to Union

The steak with bacon is well done here.
The bottomless coffee at rmb 20 is big pull for me and the coffee is good.
The place is well done , you can feel relaxed. The guinese is poured very well. There is a lady at the bar in the afternoons (I have gone there on weekends and can spot her each time) and she pours it really well, and is so polite.
I have started to like this place.
Blue frog and Union bar and grille both are my favourites. Burgers are better at Blue frog of course.

After you read the title you just know you should go and try out this place. It is a good ruben. Smoked turkey piled upon smoked turkey. They have some other decent food too and great deals on guinness during happy hour.

I wanted to make the restaurant’s barbecued pork ribs. They are lacquered in a mixture of palm syrup and fish sauce, and are vaguely Malay in aspect and flavor, sweet and fatty with a lingering pong of fishiness, a salty thrum below their caramelized crust.

I think we dine there every Sunday evening when we're craving a homey atmosphere and high quality comfort food from a solid menu of good choices. The Wine menu is also decent and it's never a hit or miss experience. The food is always great and they will prepare anything you want specially or differenly per your liking. The staff are unbelievably great and wonderful with kids ( making it more pleasant for everyone's dining experience) and you can always count on a wonderfully tasting meal. The prices are just right and the atmosphere makes it all just right.

Stumbled into Union by accident looking for somewhere quiet to work - with its bottomless coffee, great ice cream sundae, comfy chairs and cosy atmosphere, this is a suprisingly nice place to spend an afternoon working away on one's laptop!

Excellent alternative option.

I have gone to the Union Bar & Grill 4 times in the last year when I vistied Beijing. I love ordering the steaks there. It is one of the few times in China that I am able to order food for my guests. It is a treat for me to show off American food to my Chinese friends. The food quality and portion sizes are excellent. I also like the quiet, private atmosphere and the excellent service I get. It is really a good eating environment. When dealing with RMB, I lose control of how much the food really costs. I think the food costs about 2 times what I would pay in the USA.
