Xiu 秀
Xiu rests on the sixth floor (and rooftop) of an annex of the Park Hyatt Hotel. A calming, water-laden terrace surrounds a traditional Chinese pavilion, which contains a large saloon, a wine room and a number of smaller rooms. Signature cocktails cost RMB 70 and up but are of a quality commensurate with the price; the rest of the drinks menu is made up of big-name liquors and wines. The terrace is the draw in warm weather months, with food (including Beijing duck and barbecue), live music and a small fireplace adding to the amenities.

Good place for people watching
You cant have space to dance so dancing is out of question. So many people. You cant step nearby the dancing place.
Yes the outside patio makes you feel good. Cool place. A good drink and a good chat is possible there if you find a place.
Drinks are done well.
Avoid thurday nights as it is too crowded. Other times of week you could enjoy the place.

See peoples watching others peoples...
nice decoration for this place which is very good beside the ladies night..
in fact the idea of making a ladies night is cool but if you have to wait 2 hours to enter and put your jacket inside the closet then the ladies night is over and welcome to: "i like to walk on ya shoes night"...
they keep on letting too many peoples enter the place, its crazy that so many peoples are looking to go the same place, dont think about dancing on ladies night, you are here to stay as little as possible to pack some more around... the place is good looking besides this, the music band is very good, and its a good place to go on summer with much more space to welcome all of these bunch of laowais who loves to spend money on expensive drinks and staring at others :)

Xiu
coming back from a year long absence and visiting this bar again on thurs, ladies night, I was disappointed. From my memories from last summer when it just opened - first weeks- it was a fantastic place, great crowd, great vibe. My most recent visit was waiting in que for 40 min, completely ridiculous! and once getting in a drink took another 30 min. The bartenders are swamped...and so many people I didn't even try to squeeze on the dance floor. the terrace is lovely and apparently they implemented a 100 cover for guys, which i think is a smart move. I'm still giving it 4/5 despite my latest visit cause I know it can be a awesome place.

Will Not Be Making Another Trip
The drinks aren't bad, I'll give it that. But for 70 kuai, I'd rather be getting the much more meticulously and beautifully made cocktails at Apothecary. Drinks aside, the service is absolutely awful. The place is huge and has about 5 different rooms, but very few of seats are open to people not willing to spend 2000 kuai. The waiters are rude and snobby and will not help you at all. There are so many rooms but they don't have a system of checking where there are free seats, so you basically have to walk around the entire bar trying to find a place to sit. I went on a Wednesday night, the outside was completely crowded, and the insides fairly empty. My friends and I walked around for 30 minutes before actually giving up on the place and the waitstaff and had a quick drink while standing at the bar. And beautiful people? Try 10 50 year old men to 1 20 something year old girl. I'm definitely not going back because there are so many better ways to spend my time and money.

dangerous, beware
service/security personnel seem to protect local hotshots who are drunk and terrorize esp foreign patrons.
as a foreigner if you accompany a chinese lady, you and esp the lady with you maybe in danger to be attacked by those gangsters, and the security personnel seem to protect them rather than you.
had a horrifying experience there couple of weeks ago, my wife was mugged and security personnel did not do anything, just watched, and behaved very arrogantly when asked for help. it is clear that security personnel are friends with the bouncers, not serving their customers.
beware of this place

Always a good time
I quite like Xiu. First off, it's a really great-looking bar. I started coming for their ladies night which are always packed. On Thursdays, if you are young and female and come with other females, then I wouldn't worry too much because you can walk straight in but otherwise, you might want to try and get there before 11pm to avoid the line. It can take some effort to order a drink or call over a waiter.
I finally went to Xiu not on ladies night, a Wednesday night, and to my surprise it was still pretty happening and had a good male-female ratio. The people there are quite pretentious...but usually its pretentious people being friendly, if that makes sense. I always manage to have a few interesting conversations with complete strangers there. Actually, I can't ever remember not having a good time at Xiu.
Now if only they would get rid of the live band...

Update. I have to revise this review and move it down to 1 star. This place has just gotten insanely packed. The staff last time were very very rude, it was literally impossible to get a drink. One of my friends was so angry at the treatment she received there, she vowed never to go back there again. The terrace is much nicer at Q bar and I don't have to put up with stupid crap. Xiu's just gotten unbearable.

Once upon a time...
There was a great bar with a great band.
Then it got very crowded but the manager just counted the nr of people and figured, if every person buys 1 expensive drink, I will be rich! Let's just pretend to have a selective door policy with those bouncers, but let every body in that dress up sexy. We can even increase revenue when we ask commission from the hookers and their pimps warming up in our club!
And that, my friends... is how a nice bar got killed again by the greed of it's management.
What is left, are the tourist that do not know better and the 3rd rank trend followers. After 2 hours waiting, they could finally took a drink and lived long and happily for as long as it could last.
BTW, the same happened to:
- Suzie Wong
- Browns
- Centro

I like the band here
The band is good here. The really play hard to make you feel good.
Second thing I love about this place is the cool breeze in the open air patio.
Its on higher floor not like the 1st floor bars so there is a good breeze.
The eats are good quality. and Yes the cigar choices ! You can enjoy the cigar when you are tired of sipping !
The lady selling cigars is quite impressive.

Service levels down
Went here on a week day. 10.30 pm , too crowded .
Pushed to the bar ,we enjoyed the band for sometime.
But there was just no place for a sitout and we didnt have reservation.
Go there only when you reserve or go there with a risk either the bouncer wont allow you inside .(some one of our group was stopped by a bouncer as the bar was too full !)
At 11.30 we got out and headed to sanlitun .

Overcrowded and poor service
Obviousely when you admit 300 patrons when you can serve only 100 what happens?
people standing ,on each other`s toes.
The place has good view and is airy and sure gets good crowd but its losing the charm as service is issue as it has too many people to handle.
bar tenders are good.
Its just they temper the crowd by reservations or whatever policy, and admit only as they can serve well.

Wanna go to Xiu? ehhh, no thanks.
Especially for ladies night, it gets so crowded that it's not worth going or worth waiting.
I use to like going back in the summer, but it's gone downhill since then. The band is not good at all, I really wonder how people enjoy the music. Drinks are hard to get and 'watered' down. I've heard alcohol is possibly fake.
The only good aspect about Xiu is the interior and the venue itself. Great roof top! Maybe will just have to wait till summer! Beware, they've gotten strict with dress code, so can't go in flip flops no more;)

BAD SERVICE - FAKE DRINKS - FULL OF HOOKERS. Review?
I have been going to Xiu ever since it opened..and previously it used to be NICE. For the last 3 months here is what I have encountered personally.. even though I have gone there a few times to see if it changed to good old days
1. Fake drinks - not just in Glasses, which we dont even find out, but BOTTLES. Managed to get fake bottles of Gin, fake bottles of Vodka. And at the price tag of over RMB 1000, they gotta be kidding me.
2. Bad Service - you have to wait for 10-15 minutes before a waiter even looks at you. Then you wait for 10-15 minutes, and asking 10 times, before you drink arrives. Mind you collecting money they waste no time. Then you wait 20-30 minutes before they bring your change back. I dont mind tipping but I dont want to give RMB 30 for a tip on 1 glass of vodka tonic, which I waited 30 minutes to get
3. Hookers - you can find nice girls there..but after they have enjoyed 3-4 drinks (expensive ones) and brought more girls to introduce to you..you realize its not you they want, they want your wallet. Ranging from RMB 500 to 3000, I have been quoted all sort of services
Now if you want to go to this place.. by all means!!! Go waste your money

Recent news
Drop by Saturday night. 10h30 the ratio is 5 men for each woman. New band since my last visit, more current music. Service is little quicker at the bar compared to my last time there but it still takes forever to get your change.
At 1am the ratio gets better. Band says good-night at 2am. The crowd thins out a little, better ratio, almost 1 to 1. Things get warmer. People dance closer. One girl approaches me. Says she has watched me all night. I have nice eyes.... Tells me it is her birthday today. Almost believe her until she says she is 22. Very friendly but could be more friendly for 600rmb!! At that point (3am) more girls than guys. I guess they are only working girls left. Time to go home

Better than most bars in Beijing
Pros:
- Unique atmosphere and live music gets punters in a good mood to mix with other patrons. Stays fun until late. Thursday night is good.
- Lounges good for chatting away from dancefloor.
- No model/actor types like the vain knobs paid to visit Suzie Wong.
- Met Dita Von Teese there Sat night. Good sort.
Cons:
- Too many 'pros' taking up real estate at the bar.
- Going to kill myself if I hear Bon Jovi one more time. Plus that blonde guitarist smiles too much.
- Staff are completely useless. Either spend more time & money training or hire some professional bartenders from HK / Singapore.
- Expensive. Good place to end the night, not start.
Conclusion: Beijing's bar scene would benefit from competition between more bars in the Lankwaifong / Xiu model. There's only so much 'solja boy' that a punter can take.

Did not see the hookers..
...but may be wrong time ;)
Can only agree with the other reviewers: Nice layout, BUT
- Service bad
- Drinks soso
- Music not adequate
- Expensive (which would be acceptable if it were a nice place).
This is the Park Hyatt and not some local bar in Lanzhou...unbelievable and wonder if nobody of them is reading the reviews...

Tarts & Hookers but No Vicars.
Used to think Xiu was fab, now it has been 'found' it's just full of 'Old Tarts'. The band, although good, could do with a change-same songs/covers. Drinks prices now on the way up and just way to busy.
Come on Hyatt, dump the 'Broads' and kick the 'Pimps' out. And what about some decent service and good looking waitresses. Place is slipping, slow bar service, takes forever to get your change, all in all, begining to look like a bit of a dump!

Get the recipe for the mango mojito and flee
The terrace is without a doubt, their strongest point and it was more than pleasant lazying off an evening there, sipping endless mango mojitos. It would have been perfect had it not been for 2 defining factors:
1 )althought the live music is decent, if youŕe unfortunate enough to get there before the band arrives, ears will be duly tortured by a freakish little guy on the keyboard, singing his heart's content to what sounds like a mix between Celine Dion and Chinese opera.
2) the service is absolute and complete SHI-TE. Whenever I've been there, I was short of using a signal gun to get a waiter's attention. And no, the place being popular is no excuse; many times the terrace was quite empty and the waitresses just looking at their nails.
The cocktails are delicious though (the mango mojito changed my life), so I suggest either to get in early, have one or two then flee.

rude staff
It was the second time we came here and same as the first time the place was quite empty.
The first time we came to the empty terrace as they told us all tables were reserved. We said we would leave then if the large group arrives. No one came within the next 2 hours.
The second time we wanted to sit in the cozy room with the fireplace. No one was in there. The waitress told us harsh and directly that minimum charge per table would be 2000 Yuan. We asked for another table and were guided there.
After we sat down another waitress told us to get up again because the table is reserved at 10pm. I insisted to keep the table. It was just 9pm. Then we waited 10minutes for one drink. All drinks were served with several minutes delay. Impossible to cheers with my friends.
I was complaining to the waitress and she was just laughing and said why I am raising my voice. She did not even apologize for mixing up with the tables and the drinks.
The interior design is worth a 4 stars, the service attitude makes it a 1 star. It's far far away from Park Hyatt standard.
I will not go there again.
