Thank heavens! Din Tai Fung (Ding Taifeng), the internationally renowned Taiwan dumpling chain, is finally in Beijing. Bright, modern – and already bustling – their menu offers up a wide selection of dumplings, including their justly famous xiaolong bao (pork soup dumplings, RMB 38 for ten), noodles, soups, and sweet buns. A glimpse into the kitchen via a window on the ground floor reveals cooks rolling and stuffing dough at a frantic pace. They have high demands to meet: though recently opened, word has already leaked, and the restaurant is packed. If you go for a weekend lunch expect to wait for a table. Dec 04
