In early spring this year, Live Beijing Music, the glorified blog covering all things music-related in Beijing and beyond, was cowardly hacked by a group of renegade butthurt folks. It was dire times and all was lost. Till a hero emerged in the shape of BeijingDaze aka Badr – local music supporter and Moroccan restaurant and bar proprietor. He got his hands dirty and swooped out those mischievous hacks and while we had our fair of casualties, the integrity and website will survive to see another day to give you all the latest on musical happenings here in our capital.

To celebrate the heroism of the many folks were lent a hand and helped get the ball rolling again, LBM will be throwing an afternoon into evening party at Beijing’s number one Moroccan food joint and livehouse, Caravan, where six bands with six distinct styles will rock out into the late night.

On the menu: surf rock aficionados Boss Cuts, who have been shaking down the music scene as of late with their reverb-drenched high tempo sound that’ll have you grooving in no time. Blues rock and roll with a touch of country twang – Ghetto Blaster reminds you how much fun it is to add a little swing to your step and a little grease to your hair – old school rock and roll that’s not afraid to cut loose. Get your folk on with Coupla Cups – the new duo from Nathan Borofka (Oldy Baby, Sardine is Back) and Reese (Black Chasm, Cluster Cuss) who collide past traditions with current flavors in search of that new folk sound. From serious rock music to boring free improvisational to world music – Boiled Hippo have been switching up their game since the band reemerged this year with a tighter sexier emphasis on rhythm and a gleeful disregard for genre conventions – expect the unexpected. Also on the bill - Kinkorgasm, the one man project that brings together gloomy new wave with steely post punk attitude – with just the help of a midi keyboard and a computer - minimalist synth vibes that’ll have you swaying side to side. Last on the menu - TOSS – the grunge rock trio that formed in Qingdao before relocating to Beijing and challenges the rules of music and society with their explosive genre-bending rock and roll that’s not afraid to get down and dirty. Six bands ready to light a spark - a hardy meal indeed.

But that’s not all – DJ Fancy Hobo will kick off the festivities at 4pm with a playlist of our favorite Chinese summer jams while Caravan keeps mouths quenched and spirits high with an array of drink deals. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for all the details.
