A Chinese-language production of the Chekov play Seagull will be staged at the Capital Theatre. Middlebrow writer Konstantin Treplyov has written a play about Nina, a girl from a neighbouring estate who is in love with his rival, Trigorin. Chekov worked on the principle that nothing in a story should be extraneous – a playwright should never make a promise to the audience he didn’t intend to keep.
