Can anyone suggest some good (ENGLISH@!!!) books on chinese history, cultures and that kinda stuff?
I got some books that comes with pimsleur which woke up my appite for more information and would like to read more.

They've got quite a selection of used books on all subjects Chinese. History's too broad a subject to make particular recommendations -- what era of history are you talking about?

I would recommend Sources of Chinese Tradition Volume 1 and 2, compiled by Wm. Theodore de Bary. It's got translations of excerpts of all the major works of thought/history through Chinese history and has a good commentary.
If you want a lighter read, Rebellions and Revolutions is a great book on chinese history from yhe 1800s to the 1980s. It's by Jack Gray and is part of the Short Oxford History of the Modern world series.

I recommend Twilight in The Forbidden City and From Peking to Mandalay by Reginald Fleming Johnston. These books were recently republished and are available on Amazon in print and Kindle editions.
Also, Peking by Juliet Bredon is a great read and her other book the Moon Year is a good read too. Peking was written in 1920's and gives a fascinating account of the city when it was two walled cities.
For a history of Buddhism, read Buddhist China also by Reginald Fleming Johnston
Johnston was the last emperor's tutor.... and twilight was used as the source for the first half of the classic Last Emperor movie.

Hmmm, Johnston was Yuan Shikai's tutor. That is news to me.

Good point. You know your history well. I should have said "Qing Dynasty Emperor by succession", not 'last emperor' as Yuan Shikai did proclaim himself to be emperor when he was president.
