Best Indian Food?

Can anyone tell me which Indian restaurant is the best?
The only one I know about is the one at the Lido.

Re: Best Indian Food?

In Beijing, Indian food is often paired with Thai food. For unadulterated Indian food, I like the Taj Pavilion at China World. Others will moan about the 15 percent service charge, but I love their mutter paneer, chicken tikka, naan bread, vegetable biryani, raita... I could go on and on! Indian Kitchen on Sanlitun is just ok, but they have Southern specialties like dosa and idli. Some love the Tandoor but I haven't been there. I haven't really found any other great Indian food, but would love to hear other suggestions.

Re: Best Indian Food?

Yes. Taj Pavilion, at Lido or at China World, is tops, although quite pricey. Indian Kitchen is also pretty good, less expensive, and they have a nice selection of breads including the spirally cone kind.

Re: Best Indian Food?

How about the Indian place by the SOS Clinic on the North Sanlitun area? Next to Serve the People? Has anyone been there? How are they?

Re: Best Indian Food?

That's actually a Burmese restaurant and I think it's just ok. Went there when it first opened though, so maybe it deserves a second chance.

Re: Best Indian Food?

JAVA is the name, and Although not Indian I would say give it a second chance. they had some problems getting started but I recently went back and it was allot better. the curry all taste a little different... something I like.

are you ready for it?

Re: Best Indian Food?

can anyone tell me where i can find a indian grocery store in beijing???

Re: Best Indian Food?

The last time I ate at the Mexican restaurant Nina, they had some bottles of Indian curry for sale in their little grocery store. I looked at the label and it was really from India. I didn't look close enough, though, to see if it was a paste or a powder.

Re: Best Indian Food?

Taj Pavillion? A BIG dissapointment. Nothing especially complex about their curries, boring in fact, and the service was horrid. With all that I read in praise of this place, it was an shameful letdown! I have no idea how this place ranks as high as it does with readers...

Re: Best Indian Food?

I really like Chingari. It's right next door pretty much to the Australian embassy in Chaoyang Qu, on Dongzhimenwai Dajie. It's upstairs from a Pizza Hut. I've tried Taj Pavillion, and while I think the food is pretty good, it's really expensive for Beijing. Chingari is both cheap and good. While Taj Pavillion is good, I think Chingari is better. Interior is a bit tacky, but go for the food. Their chicken tikka masala and their chicken tikka kabob are great stuff. Give it a shot.

Re: Best Indian Food?

Is JAVA the same place that used to be in the Comfort Inn? That place was excellent!

Re: Best Indian Food?

I have liked Ganges very much.
Before I boarded my flight from India i did check with a few friends who had been to Beijing .After landing about 3/4 days later i got a chance to visit Indian Restaurant.
I had heard raving reviews of Ganges Indian Restaurant so i straight headed there.
Excellent food: I went for Rasam soup-starter-tomato rasam-It was out of the world.
starter was my favourite- Batata wada- it was so well done as in mumbai .
I had some chinese guys/gals-so we ordered some Tandoori Chicken as i had seen them love eating barbeques. The just loved it and they ordered another round of full barbeque platter.
My dinner was palak panner(the cottage cheese -so soft ) and spinacy i have no words to describe-so tasteful, just right spicy and ate about 3 chapptis(soft indian bread) with the curries.
The channa masala was also too good.
The restaurant was decently filled up . Though we were there for over 2 hrs enjoying every bit of delicious food the tummy could handle. We ended with my favourite Yellow Dal fry and jeera rice and the classic Gulab jamun.
It was a heavenly feeling.
It costed us approximately about 70 rmb/ per person because we went slow on drinks.
i will be working in wudakho next week and they told met they have a branch there too and it wont take more than 15 minutes from the zhongwanchun IT park.
so i will not miss india especially on the food part !
highly recommended for those who are missing Indian food in Beijing.

Re: Best Indian Food?

Please try the "Tandoor". Its on the ground floor of the Zhaolong Hotel, telephone number 65972299. Best service, best Indian food I've ever had in BJ,

Re: Best Indian Food?

Dontcha just love it when some "helpful" user starts off with a single post as an advert for a business?

*yawn*

Re: Best Indian Food?

I've had some nice meals the Chingari on Donzhimenwai . Decent prices, decent service, decent food. Possibly not the best in Beijing if you are just looking at food quality, but the overall experience and value is excellent. Try the set meal for 39RMB!

Re: Best Indian Food?

Go to Zeb's Pakistani restaraunt at San Li Tun behind 3.3.

If you go through 3.3 to the back door and turn left and walk to the end of the street you'll see Pakistan restaraunt.

It's the best Pakistani food around, real traditional food, similar to Indian, but I think better

Re: Best Indian Food?

Indian Kitchen by the boat in Sanlitun, is the best I think, the owner/head chef, is very willing to make you special stuff.

As falls Witchita so falls Witchita Falls.

AT LIDO -did you try the Ganges .It is close to the Jenny Lous , just off the Hotel Holiday Inn .
I have been eating at Ganges since last 3 years I have been in Beijing. When we studied at Peking University, Ganges Haidian used to be our favourite place for small parties, and regular eatout place.
Now that I have shifted to downtown I keep visiting their PLACE location or the Lido depending on which area we are.
Ganges has the Authentic taste and doesnot come at the price of Tandoor or Taj.
These are my real experiences .This may sound like an advertisement but experience to beleive it.

At Lido -the Tex Mex Grill is a good place.
Try the newly Olive at Lido .Tex Mex is American-mexican food and Olive -Italian.Just thought you are in Lido and i have lived there for 6 months and keep visiting once in a while .
These are 2 good spots there.

Somebody had mentioned Pakistani restaurant in the posts below.
I have eaten there .It just doesnot come close to any Indian food. The food is just not up to the mark at the pakistani restaurant.

Re: Best Indian Food?

It would be great if you can stop E-marketing and write genuine reviews.
