Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

I've got some friends coming into town and want to take them out for Sunday brunch? What's the best place to go? St. Regis? Who's got the best champagne for Sunday brunch?

"It's not my fault."

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

Paul's steak and eggs,I guess.

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

Can't go wrong with St. Regis' champagne brunch. The Shangri-La Hotel on the west side does a Sunday lobster champagne brunch, which is very nice as well.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what kind of Champagne they serve at these two places? I heard it was Moet and Chandon Imperial at Shangri-la...

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

Champagne connosieur, eh?

Not sure about the Shangri-La, but the St. Regis serves Pol Roger.

A place is probably going to lose money on me the way I guzzle the stuff.

Thanks! One of my co-workers confirmed that the Champagne at the Shangra-La is Moet-Chandon Imperial.

Does anyone know if the China World or Kempinski or the Hilton have Champagne brunches?

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

No champers brunch at China World or Hilton, but yes at the Kempinski. RMB 285 plus a 15% service charge.

Thanks PP. Have you tried that brunch? If so, how was it and what kind of Champagne did they serve?

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

I haven't tried any of the champagne brunches... I love champagne but not drinking during the day. Post a report though, if you go!

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

The best Sunday brunch is at the Intercontinental Hotel. Lots of everything and the quality is superb! Great sushi and the best laksa in town. Great quality for the price.... if I'm not mistaken it's 180 yuan without champagne.

Who's Pol Roger? Pol Pot's younger brother?

Janice, where's the Intercontinental and do you know the price of brunch with the bubbly?

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

There's no Intercontinental Hotel in Beijing, yet.

Kempinski Hotel bruch is superb. They have something for everyone, including Champagne, and a clown and games for the children. Be sure to make a reservation.

Cheers.

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

I'd suggest that you google the word "google" - that should do the trick....

(if you're serious, lemme know)

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

How about Grandma's? Or the Orchard? for brunch that is.

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

i was thinking more of an "official" brunch. you can have brunch at grandma's, but you're just ordering off the menu.

by the way, i heard the kempinski hotel has brunch. anyone tried it?

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

"Frühschoppen" or The Brunch Affair at "Die Kochmützen- Made in Germany"
Pamper yourself with a wide variety of German delicacies in an relaxed and tranquil atmosphere while enjoying live classical and pop music performed by our new string quartett! RMB 98 per person.

Die Kochmuetzen - Made in germany - The place to be to enjoy real German food & atmosphere!

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

what kind of food does this brunch include? also, how much is champagne? i need some champers with my bratwurst.

"It's not my fault."

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

okay okay....

Mr Buster, what is an "official" brunch? My ma and pa taught me that brunch was just a late breakfast, and the last time i checked you can "order that off the menu."

I think he means buffet style where you can stuff your face without limits.

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

He's asking about Champagne Brunches. (For those who need it spelled out, let's put two and two together gee, that means brunch that serves bubbly. A tad more upscale than your run-of-the-mill brunch. Definitely not found at Grandma's.) Just like there are "menus" and there are "tasting menus" - it's a variation on a theme.
So what's the verdict? Where's the best Champagne Brunch?

A closed mouth gathers no feet.

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

I've had brunch at the InterContinental Hotel, Kempinski and most recently St Regis. Boy what a rip off the St Regis is. At 400+ yuan per person I was expecting a really special spread that the other hotels don't have. So what if they servce French champagne. The selection of food is quite limited compared to the Kempinski and the quality is nothing to rave about. I'm not going there again. It's not worth the money and time.

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

i need a follow up on the sunday champagne brunch,

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

I take my daughter to brunch every Sunday.

She likes Grandma's Kitchen, and I like Steak and Eggs.

Where are these visitors from? What kind of "brunch" are they expecting?

For those that want authentic North American food, Steak and Eggs is #1 for me and Grandma's is #2 ...

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

something a little decadent, with a great buffet and a cosy/sunny atmosphere

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

Really your choices are St Regis and InterContinental. I think as well there just may be champagne at China World and Cafe Cha, though not so sure. I believe all prices are ranging from 350 to 500 a head

Re: Sunday Brunch - Where's the best one?

Chinaworld indeed offers a champagne brunch (similar price range, ie RMB390-400/person).

Good buffet layout, variety of choice.

I find the "eating area" there a little canteen-like, though.

St.Regis is smaller but/therefore feels a tad more "intimate" than the other places mentioned.
