Bookworm
So, anyone been to the new Bookworm? Fantastic place to hang out but perhaps getting a little too popular -- not a quiet place to flip through the books anymore.

Admin, do you know how much it costs to borrow books there?

Re: Bookworm
when i joined i believe it was a deposit of 200 or 300 kuai, giving you the privilege of borrowing up to three books at one time (no charge)

Re: Bookworm
I am going to open an alternative 'library' here in Beijing. It'll be a quick one-time fee of 100RMB to borrow books, but you have to leave your mobile and address on file. Thus, if you are one minute over due I will send my ninja fetus assassins to terminate your membership and bring my books back safely.

I heard the Italian manager is a little frisky with the volume control on the stereo depending on the song that is playing at the moment.

Re: Bookworm
Or, y'all can try the new Le Petit Gourmand. 3rd floor of Tong Li Studios, right below Bar Blu. Another book-lending cafe, but with a more extensive menu that the new Bookworm (pretty much the same menu as the original Le Petit Gourmand/Bookworm before they got demolished). I think it's 150rmb annual membership, and they toss in a free drink, too. It's cozy and has natural sunlight, plus a deck which'll be nice when the weather warms up. A nice alternative.

To hitme:
That's good, well, i gonna extend my membership card in Bookworm, it's 250RMB. Well, how about the books there in TongLi, the same as Bookworm or better than bookworm?
U sure the annual membership is 150RMB?

Re: Bookworm
Bookworm appears to have more books and they are better categorized. I think Le Petit hasn't had a chance to sort their books yet.
However, I kind of enjoyed the lack of organization because it unintentionally widens the browsing experience ... floating through the stacks without being restricted to one category at a time opens your eyes to a million reading possibilities you may not have considered if you head straight for one category.

Re: Bookworm
I can double check on the membership price. I read somewhere that they have about 9000 books at the moment, and they are working on doubling that. They've got the space. Didn't really browse, so I can't say if their collection is better/worse than the Bookworm. Probably depends on what category you limit or not limit yourself to (as per Admin's feedback).
I had their chicken sandwich. It was tasty and came with fries and a salad. I think it's pretty much the same as the old Le Petit Gourmand. I liked their salads before. The staff appear to be new and really working hard on practicing their English, which inspired me to practice my Mandarin.

Re: Bookworm
Well, finally, i went to La Petit yesterday. It's great, many books there, and it's a quiet place. And you don't need to pay money for the book membership card, if u can give 5 English books to La Petit, u can get a membership card for free. Moreover, the food there is pretty good. I talked to some people who work there, they told me that the chef there used to work in some famous hotels in Bj, i tried some food, really not bad.
Anyway, i't a good place to read , relax, or enojoy the food. Wish more and more people could go there !

Re: Bookworm
yep and the food is bad
just went there for lunch
glossy names for bland and tasteless food
i had the "balzac" salad : you too, you can become a master chef of top notch beijing world cuisine too, the recipe is quite nice and easy, and time saving
you take a salad, you clean it (at least i hope), you peel some carrots slices to add some color, you put on top a few pieces of grilled chicken to give your customers the idea that tou feed them
you put a basket of french bread on the table
et le tour est joue
you just have left to eat and chew your greens like the stupid cow you client are
not even a decent dressing, neither butter to go with it
the chocolate cake dessert was just as worse
a 'hemingway' chocolate cake, dry and tasteless, with just a pinch of liquid chocolate sauce to make a sophisticated pollock pattern on my plate
final bill: well above the 100 rmb
you people can make bad food and pretend to hype, but please do not involve world litterature giants into that scam please!
i took someone there, i really lost face!
(and i m still hungry)
