Dish of the Year

My vote for dish of the year: The chicken and mushroom tortellini at La Dolce Vita. Though I can't say for sure, I'm assuming they are home made. Never had them like that in China ... Gotta try 'em

Re: Dish of the Year

There's a new restaurant in Wangfujing called Garden of Delights. They have a beef dish called the Argentinian Matambre or something like that. It is awesome.

I smell the smoke, but, um, where's the fire?

Re: Dish of the Year

The xiaolongbao (pork soup dumplings) at Din Tai Fung are a feast for the senses. The eye is charmed by their perfect proportion, deceptively simple yet intricate folds, and the handsome bamboo steamer on which they are served. The mind delights in their cherry blossom-like evanescence: they are too hot to eat when they arrive, reach gustatory perfection after a minute or so, and then become stolid and unappetizing if left to linger too long. These elegant morsels are likewise very fragile: jab them with your chopsticks and their juices flow out leaving them dry and sadly deflated. The dumplings also offer a wide range of textures, from the soft skin and crispy sliver of ginger to the liquid burst of soup and comforting filling of ground pork. Last but not least, these xiaolongbao pleasure most of the taste receptors on the tongue including the sweet, sour (from the dash of vinegar) and salt -- fortunately, there's no bitter. In short, they are a perfect bite.

that sounds pretty darn good! I gotta make an effort to head there this weekend and try it

Re: Dish of the Year

It's a nice restaurant. Classy but not snobby.

I also had steak with black pepper sauce, quite nice.

Re: Dish of the Year

Din Tai Fung is a great restaurant, I love their chicken soup although I have never been to a branch in China.

I heard the food at Gisa is good but the portions are really small. True?

Re: Dish of the Year

True.

The portion was a little small, but to be fair, the pasta dish I ordered was classified as a "starter".

It's the kind of place where you have a couple of courses at least. Taste over quanity, which is ok with me sometimes.

The steak was big, I had trouble finishing it after the pasta.

Yeah, I love Din Tai Feng too but wow, he really LOVES them.

Sounds like it was just copied from a restaurant review. They have been in the NY Times and other international media
