Thanks in advance,

Re: ABC English Language School

I was very happy working for them for 2 months. The first month I had to beg them to pay me... the 2nd month, they deducted 1000 RMB out of my paycheck for being late. I told them that I would accept a punishment, but not that much, they did not care, they would not let me quit. They owe me 2400 RMB. I was dealing with SELINA a US Citizen, that was not helpful at all.. and with EMMA, at the HaiDian district.
They threat me to turn me into the government, and they were very abusive, almost to the point where they take you for a stupid person, and they do what ever they want with you....
There is no point in talking with them, they would do what ever they want to take advantage of you.
No matter how nice you are, how you try to explain things, they will take advantage of you...
It's sad... because I really liked my classes, and my students, but really, they think they can do what ever they want.. even that US teacher called Selena, who is totally confabullated with the Chinese management of ABC. Sad but true....She also takes advantage of US people...

Re: ABC English Language School

Hahahahahaaaaaaaa

One of the worst places I have ever worked, I quit after one month...

They give you textbooks full of English errors. They hire Swedes, Poles and Africans and lie to the students and say they are from America.

It's a ridiculous place...

I was working for 10,000 a month, when I quit they told me I had to pay $2000 US as a penalty... which wasn't on my contract.

Hilarity ensued, but the result was them witholding my salary, which I expected anyway. The threat was an empty one.

Not a good school.

Re: ABC English Language School

No it is not a good school. They withhold pay for instantly made up reasons. They insist that genuinely ill teachers teach even when they have been to a hospital and the doctors have told the teachers not to go near students. I worked for them for a year and when my contract expired they refused to give me my last months salary and they refused to give me the 40% of my first months salary that they had withheld for some unknown reason. I was getting ready to move and had been out for the day. When I came home they had changed the lock on my apartment and taken all my things to the train station to be secured there until I paid some invented charges which I had no money to pay so I lost so many of my belongings including all my personal papers and my degree and many other things. Stay away and run away from these people as fast as you can.

They also were witholding that 40% as well, forgot about that... what a joke.

I'm very happily employed at the moment, so best forgotten as a bad experience.

I know this post is not totally recent, but I gotta ask you about this...

are you serious????
were they giving you a room or something?
they took your stuff to the train station?

I am a pretty laid back, understanding person,
but i woulda gone bonkers if they did some sh$t like that...

- Bill Nye, "the Science Guy", to come teach them basic Science.
- Jared Diamond, Dan Brown, and Spencer Wells to teach them about world/human history.
- MLK and Gandhi and Einstein to teach them about what being human means.

Re: ABC English Language School

The apartment was part of my salary. 1500 yuan per month. I had gone to Changchun to interview for a new job and when I got back the locks on the door had been changed with a note to come to their office. I did get a bit upset and was escorted from their offices.

I, as one of the staff in ABC Foreign Language school, have worked in ABC for over 2 years. As i know, we of course cannot punish anybody without any reasons. The one who said he had been deduced 1000 for being late, was late for so many times or even didn't come to class without telling ABC in advance, which had given a bad consequence to the students and the school. Even he quarelled with the students in class. We of course cannot employ a teacher without punctuality or politeness. The one said his apartment had been locked after his coming back, which is totally ridiculous. He lived in the ABC's apartment for totally free within one month after his contract had been expired. Plus, he refused to extend his contract with ABC,but he still sticked to live in ABC's apartment. How ridiculous! So ABC has no other choice but to ask for help from the police to change the lock. Then, we Chinese teachers took him by taxi to the railway station. We had done all what we can. :!:

Re: ABC English Language School

My work experience with the ABC school began in the Month of May 2007.I willingly took up post with the ABC teaching school after exhaustive job seeking in order to find a school of high standing and good credentials in Beijing but also in China as a whole. My immediate impressions about ABC my current place of work upon arrival was of commendable professionalism and very high work ethics.

The staffs were obviously well trained while most of my fellow teachers were laudably cooperative and ready to give the needed teaching experience information. Genuinely speaking, ABC would stand out for among others:

1. Professionalism as an ultimate work ethic by higher and lower ranking management staff
2. Conducive working incentives including flexibility
3. An environment of motivation which includes monthly awards to well deserving teachers and staff: and
4. Ultimately the needed impetus to act as a driving force in impelling its students to gain the needed English language experience.

As an administrative policy, ABC holds its primary incentive in vigorously training its students to be able to have the highest possible wherewithal of the English language. As a direct connection, the objective of much of this goal would depend upon the drive and determination of its qualified and experienced English teachers. During the months of my employment with ABC, I have not had any cause of dissatisfaction whatsoever but would rather emphasize the high credibility with which I continue to hold the ABC Training school.

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Ridiculous.

Can you explain why the textbooks you give students are written poorly with many grammatical, factual and spelling errors?

I'll just stop at this one point, because it's blatantly true.

The school is a joke, anyone who says any different is being paid to do so.

In response to your questions concerning employment at ABC school. I and several teachers have bben employed at ABC school for 4 years, and some more than 4 years. If the statements that you have made were true, then why have these teachers remained at ABC school for such a long time?
In response to the teachers that have come from other countries. Please check your history. South Africans are native speakers. The other teachers that teach at ABC from other nations are given a chance to state their nationality. Students will confirm this. Any native speaker is interested in employment at ABC school.
Please call aBC school, speak with ABC teachers (especially the long term teachers)and students. They will be happy to verify these truths.

Er??? South Africans speak Afrikans!?

One stayed for a year and got screwed then.

Others got screwed in the first one or two months.

I don't really have to call you to find out you know little about the language spoken in South Africa do I?

Both English and Afrikaans are national languages of S.Africa, and S. Africans in general are commonly considered "Native English speakers".

You know ... when we see 3 new ID's suddenly appear on this site and they all have one post on them and they are all supporting the same place, you REALLY have to wonder why 3 foreigners suddenly found That's Beijing ... especially after you have all been here for so many years.

Can you tell us that???

We have people on here that have garnered our respect over the months that they have posted here and they are currently employed in other locations and are successful.

Why should we believe this obvious campaign to elevate your school to something acceptable?

There is one thing that most Chinese management doesn't realize when they treat their teachers like sh!t: it comes back to haunt you.

If you want people to leave their countries and come to work with you and they are not from the third world, then you treat them as adults and with respect.

It is often not the teachers at fault in these cases. It is the school themselves thinking that the teachers are going to be as pliable as Chinese employees.

Unfortunately, there are a glut of Chinese here and they must accept what they get as far as scheister employers and a-holes that do not pay on time etc.

We, on the other hand are in demand and rare. (The good ones)

You are now obviously finding out just HOW rare now that you are having staffing problems.

All of us have at least one school like yours in our past and we waste no time telling others our tales.

There is corroboration here from three people explaining the same tales and we tend to believe multiple posts from different posters.

We do however also take great joy in seeing that it is damaging your business so much that you have chosen to create three 'users' to tell your side of the story.

Now f*** Off!!!

Of course they will or management will whip them.

What??? ... are you all taking a turn now and copying the same document???

This is becoming comical.

Didn't you used to be called 'Romance'??? Or did Romance forget to tell you she'd posted this one already??

Come on, this has become a class exercise by some enterprising teacher to improve your typing skills, right???

This is so juicy, I am going to go to all the other places I post and link directly to this so that they can see how desperate ABC has become.

You are the new 'Sick Man of Asia' ... (You should really watch that Bruce Lee movie).

whosever this person is and says that teachers have stayed at ABC School for 4 years is a liar. Unless they are Chinese and been hidden no one has stayed at ABC School for this long period of time. The owners are afraid of letting people stay there so long. I worked there in 2004 and 2005 and none of the teachers that were there with me are still there and I can affirm that very easily if you need me to. I have stayed in touch with the American teachers that taught at the school while I was there and they are not anywhere near to Beijing. There i no way that 4 years could be achieved by the teachers I came to teach with in 2004. This person is a liar.

 I don't believe this latest reaction about ABC School. Actually I have 3 friends who work as full time teachers and one part time teacher and they have told me the same problems about that school, such as threatening their teachers about cancelling their visas if they will leave the school, getting a part of their first month salary as deposit, and giving rubbish books to their teachers as well as having un organised meetings etc...... I just advice you guys not to be in that kind of school......I'm happy I did not accept the offer before.....I've heard of that name SELINA and EMMA.....beware of them!!!!!

Re: ABC English Language School

Hey,

I got a bit anxious after having read through this thread. I'm currently living in Sweden with my other foot in China. I'm certified teacher with some working experience in Sweden. I don't want to move to the other side of the globe only to get screwed up by some unserious b.s. school.

Is there any list or similar where problematic schools are listed?

Well, it's kind of reality though, but just for short term.

They will pay their price for being a sh*t school, actually, they are paying right now. All of the good teachers are staying away from this ABC school....

Your english is sh*t matey -

that doesn't make sense.

And yes that school is a nightmare - my best friend came here to work - got a job there - 3 months later he was living on my floor unable to his stuff from his apt because the police were waiting for him there.

The school told him they had sorted out his visa, kept his passport from him so he was 2 months over his visa, and working illegally. School told the police it was his fault - here's his address...

He outran the police, which of course then meant he was illegal PLUS he had run away so he was a fugitive. A friend of a friend of a friend who had a connection at the PSB told us one option he should seriously consider was trying to get to the border and sneak out of china, great escape style.

In the end we had to go to the PSB, with a friend of a friend of a friend there to explain the "misunderstanding" with the running away, cost a fortune to put right >10k rmb

That school are scum, my friend would have been f***ed if he didn't have some friends already here to help him out.

stay away from them.

To his credit, my friend did go and get his pay from them after the police thing was sorted. Apparently he refused to leave their office, they tried to get nasty, he invited them all to try beat him up there and then, they shat it and paid.
