Expat Tax Advice

Need to figure out both US and China taxes and need help doing it. Anyone had good experiences with advisors in Beijing?

Thanks.

Re: Expat Tax Advice

no, i went to PWC. but they weren't nearly as helpful as the IRS website or my Turbo tax. actually the IRS website has greatly improved. lots of FAQs regarding Sino-U.S. duo taxing could be answered there.

Anyone know what Americans living in China are required to do income tax wise?

Yeah, you have to pay your taxes to the IRS. On April 15 you have to do something. Your choices are to either file a return or file an extension.

Quote:
If you are a U.S. citizen or a resident alien of the United States and you live abroad, you are taxed on your worldwide income. However, you may qualify to exclude from income up to $80,000 of your foreign earnings. In addition, you can exclude or deduct certain foreign housing amounts. (see the second link below)

Re: Expat Tax Advice

If you're employed by an American company and only on assignment here, hopefully they're paying your IIT.

If you've got that plus you were in China for the whole year, you're set.

You can get a huge exemption for being out of the country ($80K), plus you can claim your IIT as a credit against your US taxes.
