Has anyone being able to find cheap unsweetened soymilk? The western brands cost a fortune, and the chinese ones you find in supermarket all have added sugar.

i've had a hard time finding unsweetened soy milk. i've been to two lotus supermarkets and the small supermarket next to my place. each time, i ask for "dou nai", not "dou jiang", and i am pointed to sweetened soy milk. however, i don't like the taste of sweetened soy milk in china, as i'm accustomed to the silk brand in the states.
how do i ask for unsweetened soy milk?
will unsweetened soy milk still have that same odd taste as sweetened soy milk? if so, i'll just have to trek it out to jenny lou's.
If you have a blender you can just buy the beans and make it at home it's pretty easy. I buy the vitasoy brand but just looked at the ingredients and noticed sugar though I didn't taste it.
i don't have a blender at home. i noticed starbucks uses organic vitasoy soy milk but i don't know where to buy it. i believe the silk brand has sugar, too, but the chinese soy milk has a taste that is just odd to me.
where do you find your vitasoy (doesn't need to be organic)?
I get it at walmart its like 7rmb for a 1 liter carton and they have a 3 pack that's a bit cheaper. Just look where they keep the regular milk. I just looked at the box it says "non GM soy beans" and no preservatives added. The taste is really similar to the plain flavor Silk brand.
great! this will save me a trip to jenny lou's and save me a bit of money as well. two more questions: is it in the refrigerated section or the non-cold aisle? and which walmart do you go to?
thanks again, i was just at lotus again today and no luck finding soy milk.
Okay, they do not have it at Walmart up in Haidian. They do have it at City Shop and I ended up paying close to 40RMB for a box! I was desperate for some, but knowing that you pay 7RMB for a carton really hurt! Today, I found a carton of soy milk at a grocery store in the basement of Modern Plaza in Zhongguancun. A carton only cost 26RMB, so I think I'll be going there from now on for soy milk.

Re: unsweetened soy milk
Not always.
Unsweetened soymilk is very easy to find in China supermarket.
It is usually packaged in plastic bags.
And it costs 1 yuan.
Happy New Year!

Re: unsweetened soy milk
yeah I second that April. it has to be the easiest thing to find in China. You can ask the staff to help you look for it.

Re: unsweetened soy milk
It's in the non-cold isle. I'm in Shenzhen but I think they should have it up there too. If not, at least you're in the right place to buy a blender.
