psychologist's/counsellor's in Beijing
Hi there, this is my first time using the topic-forum and i am told that this is the place to be for advice so here goes.
I'm trying to locate a English-speaking (preferably as their mother-tongue) psychologist or counsellor in Beijing. I have been told about Beijing United but i would like to look at all options as i think it's important to be 100% happy with the selection.
Do you know anywhere? Please let me know!
Have you used one (good or bad)? Please send a private message to me.
Thanks, i hope thatsbj lives up to its reputation as the root of all knowledges.
I have already placed an advertisement on the classifieds but would like some feedback from here.
Thankyou all.

i'd love to see a shrink. been thinking that for a couple years, not that there's anything horribly wrong with me, but still it would be nice to talk to someone about the stuff we work through....however i doubt i could afford it, physciatrists are a great tool for the rich or clinically insane, but not available to the average guy

The Vista Clinic has a therapist who is supposed to speak good English and Japanese. I don't know much about her but her name is Mickey Xu. Call Vista 8529 6618 for details.
Also, the Beijing Suicide Research and Prevention Centre ought to offer some mental health care services. I'll try and dig up the contact info.
If any one else has information on mental health professionals in Beijing, please private message me as well.

OK, so I'll post it here as well, so others can beneift.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) www.emofree.com is a technique based on tapping on meridians. It works on emotional issues and stress/tension and is quick to produce a result. It is FREE to learn and very simple to do on yourself and others. I find it amazing for all kinds of things and certainly the web site has evidence of many different uses for it. Used a lot by therapists in the UK, Europe and USA in their practices.
email me if you want further info or help.
Hope it finds a use somewhere. Cheers, Paul

Is EFT available in Beijing Paul? Is this your service or did you just happen to find the link?

Re: psychologist's/counsellor's in Beijing
Hi again. Thankyou for all your help and prvate notes. I will reply to all private messages, but there were a lot!
It surprised me how many people say they are lonely/miserable too. We should have a national "stand up if your lonely" day and then the people who stand know they are not alone but part of a huge, if quiet, group.
As for the "psychiatrist" who asked for my cell number and then began reading the bible to me, I feel you tricked me, and, instead of making me any more open to the posibility of religion, you have done the absolute opposite. Is there anything in the commandments about lying?
Thanks to you all.

Re: psychologist's/counsellor's in Beijing
I am very happy to help anyone learn EFT. I want to develop it in China as I feel it is something that can help a lot of people, and it can be used in all kinds of areas of life from relationships to sports, from acute and chronic diseases to stress (see the website). For me, it is like finding a new religion and I just want to spread the word as I think it is so good. Eventually if people think it is good enough and it gets a following I would like to hold workshops, etc.
It is a very effective tool to know about, and can help overcoming blocks to learning, exam nerves, etc. Even if you dont use it on yourself but just teach it to your kids, it will be worthwhile learning it for them to use.

Hello,
I am a licensed social worker with several years of experience helping people from all sorts of backgrounds deal with depression, anxiety disorders, marital and relationship issues, and other mental health concerns. I was born and raised in China, but have been living in the US since 1989, so I am fluent in both English and Chinese and familiar with the psychological stresses that come with living in a foreign country. I am in Beijing (Haidian/University district) for the year, and am currently accepting new clients for individual and/or couples therapy.
Feel free to leave me a private message with your phone number if you'd like to get more information or set up an appointment.
Best,

Re: psychologist's/counsellor's in Beijing
Dear M. Wang,
Please allow me to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Mitchell Greene and I am writing to inquire about the possibility of working as a therapist in Beijing, China. I have a Master's degree in counseling and behavioral health from New York University. A licensed mental health counselor in New York State, I completed my clinical internship at an outpatient substance abuse clinic followed by an extenstive research fellowship in addiction medicine. I currently maintain a research appointment and work with clients both individually and in group sessions.
Clinically, I have significant experience treating substance abuse and dependence, anxiety, depression and mood disorders as well as working with health-related issues such as tobacco cessation, and adjustment to life situations, such as cross cultural issues. I specialize in motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal treatment modalities with a client-centered, collaborative approach to care.
I expect to relocate to Beijing in 4-6 months. I would like to work in private practice or at a clinic. I would very much appreciate any assistance you could provide regarding work as a mental health counselor in Beijing. Please feel free to contact me at mitch.greene78@gmail.com or here on the Beijinger. I’m happy to discuss any questions about my training or how I might be of service as a mental health counselor in Beijing. Thank you much for your consideration and time.
Sincerely,
Mitchell Greene, MA., LMHC

I had mental problems from time to time. But I've never seen a psychologist. I use aromatherapy and food therapy combined with whole new lifestyle.
Some abnormal human behaviors may be caused by eating substances that upset delicate chemical balances in the brain.

Re: psychologist's/counsellor's in Beijing
Depression is a state of mind and therefore it cannot be cured by medication. Medications that a psychiatrist prescribes for depression are nothing more than mood altering drugs. Over time your body will become physically and psychologically addicted to these drugs and your problems will only become worse.
Since depression is a state of mind, psychiatrist must prescribe medication by "guessing" what amounts that a patient might need. Many times they use the "stock" method. By this I mean they will prescribe the medications that they have the most incentive from the pharmaceutical salesman to prescribe.
The fact is that depression is a state of mind that can be changed by a simple act of a person's will. Going to a psychiatrist is a waste of time and money. Medication will only make your state of mind worse. Depression medication only deadens your senses and alters your mood. This mood altering state is only temporary and you have failed to deal with the root cause for your depression.
Depression is nothing more than another term for hopelessness. Hopelessness is the result of not understanding what the true purpose of your life is. When a person understands what his/her true purpose for life is, depression will no longer rule their life. Depressed people have failed to answer the critical questions about their existence...i.e. Where did I come from? Why am I here? Depressed people are walking down the path of life with a blindfold over their eyes. Only the correct answers to the critical questions about life will remove the blindfold.
Before coming to Beijing, I spent five years counseling untold numbers of individuals that were suffering from "depression" and I found that their problem became much more acute and much more difficult to overcome after a psychiatrist decided "medication" was the answer to their problems.
Feel free to PM me if you would like some suggestions about how to remove your blindfold of hopelessness without medication and find the answers to the critical questions about life.

Re: psychologist's/counsellor's in Beijing
I agree with you.
I treated my depression by myself.
I used to take a little escitalopram because I cried too much at home. The doctor told me to take the drug as long as possible. But I didn't follow her advice and threw away the drug in less than a week. The drug couldn't change my mood but only made me unable to cry and leaded to severe headaches.
Some self-help books, good movies, full nutrition and enough sleep do benefit me better.
Now even thinking about the worst memories, I have no blue feelings at all. But I think the drugs changed my brain a little. Sometimes I feel extremely happy about little funny things or crazy plans and always feel full of energy. It's not addiction since I hate the drug very much...
Believe in god. Believe in love. Believe in myself. Hold faith tight no matter what kind of person I used to be and what challenge is waiting for me. Rainbows are always there after the rain.
