Umbrella Recovering?

I know this is unusual, but I have a fine old umbrella whose silk just split. Has anyone come across a shop that replaces the fabric with silk or nylon? In the old days there must have been many. New umbrellas are cheap, of course, but this one has much character.

Thanks!!

Re: Umbrella Recovering?

Maybe a shoe repair man for the frame or tailor for fabric - just an idea.

My gf says that in the 'old days' there were people shouting outside in the street (in the country) advertising to repair your umbrella but these days there are none of these boys. Not much help, sorry.

To quote H.L. Mencken...
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
