Sashimi
Hey ALL!
Some friends are visiting me from out of town.
I want to take them to a very nice upscale Japanese Restuarant.
Top quality sashimi and legit Sake for goodtimes. Does anyone have good recommendations?
I've been told top quality sashimi is hard to come by in Beijing due to far proximity from the sea. True, but which is the best you've been to?
Thanks

Re: Sashimi
Ajitoku in Haidian.
Best Japanese in Beijing. Nothing else comes close.
(Just my humble opinion.)

Re: Sashimi
Hey thanks Teriyaki.
Have you been to many sushi joints in Beijing? Is it really the Best BJ has to offer? No, I ask because I really want to find the BEST Japanese restuarant.
Also, Can I get directions please?
Thanks.

Re: Sashimi
The Japanese restaurant in Shangri-la hotel was the best, I think.
Or Hatsune in Guang hua Lu would be good choice.

Re: Sashimi
Yotsuba is the best sushi place I have tried in Beijing. The sashimi is extremely fresh.

Re: Sashimi
I've done the TBJ's reader choice restaurants... Hatsune and the like. They're ok, but basically, they're not very authentic. They've been non-Japaneseified or Westernized or Chinesified in some way. Not that they're bad or anything like that. But I lived in Japan for a while, so I'm a pretty tough critic.
Ajitoku is great because there's a lot of originality and creativity in their menu. It never wins any awards because it's small, hard to find, and out of the way for most people. But if you go there, you'll notice that the majority of the clients are Japanese. And I'm convinced of the reason for this. Yes, it's very good. Try it and see what you think!

Re: Sashimi
@ Terriyaki?
Have you tried Yotsuba? It is a tiny place with about enough space for 15-20 people.
It is far and away the best sushi I have had in years. I grew up in Hawaii and LA and this is as good as anything I have had. I would be interested to know if you have been there and how it compares. I am always on the lookout for good Japanese restaurants.

Re: Sashimi
No, I haven't eaten there yet, but I've been meaning to. I've heard a lot of good things about it. But I heard that you have to reserve many days in advance (because of the small size), so I've always been too lazy to check it out. Maybe after I go there, I'll think it has dethroned Ajitoku. But it's on my List of Things To Do.

Re: Sashimi
great informative comments guys.
I've checked That'sBj MAg for Japanese restuarants. It's difficult to choose when all the restuarants claim to "real fresh, authentic." information Overload!!
Anyway, thanks guys, will check out both Ajitoku and Yotsuba. Will let you guys know what I think of both.
